First let me Mate to you that I do know the area issues and people of Legislative District 68 as well as any one person could and I w ill represent this district w ith my level best effort given the I am proud to be a part of the people and landscape opportunity of this district I know and understand that partisanship plays a big role in some people’s minds but I ask all who will vote in this district to look deeper than political labels and symbols when selecting who will represent you from this district in the and I next legislative session I believe in a need for government of government to the people it believe in absolute accountability I best believe be the to is supposed very government is serving that w hith is closest to the people The more local the better be it city county or special districts including local school districts Government at this level is easier for the public to have access to and to have direct influence on It also requires and gets real accountability was Two hundred years ago even our Federal Government smaller and more limited in what its functions and responsibilities were There are many differing opinions as just when things began to unravel but whether it was one hundred and fifty years ago or fifty years ago it did unravel to the bloated out of control mess we now have in Washington DC Yrii riot Mire what il hack to what will ever bring our Federal Government anything docs it should be but we can only hope something My point in this discussion for even mentioning the Federal is beginning to mirror or mess is that Utah’s State Legislature Our State Legislature look and act more and more like Congress a special interest forum has become for many of its members interests and personal agendas of doing to local been blaming the what we all have for years government cderal folks of doing to the State and Locals If you just take the time to look there are a lot of examples of this If you can’t find any examples just ask a Mayor City Council person or a School Hoard Member If you still County Commissioner haven't found someone to give you some examples give me a try lerc are just a few issues that come to my mind This year’s legislative session produced its very first (and I hope the last) Senate Hill 2 a school funding omnibus piece of legislation bill that wound up containing several other pieces of legislation that had previously been defeated in the session But legislative hell bent on having their way with the defeated leadership legislation that they supported packaged it in with the school funding bill and shoved it dow n our throats copying the tactic of There arc other examples of how local the big boys in Congress government issues are targeted by both individual and groups of Another example: Salt Lake County legislators micromanaging decided not to give millions of dollars of county tax money to so the source the RFAL Salt Lake soccer stadium construction of tax money in question was taken from the county by the funneled the to and the was legislature money project anyway Also we can no longer elect who we choose for membership on the State School Hoard w ithout first a selection committee submitting names to the Governor so he can then tell us who we can vote for A State Senator takes sides with a land not even in his district and tries to bully a District developer Court Judge to render a favorable court judgment to his friend the developer against Mapleton City A few years ago a very powerful legislator who was also employed by Salt Lake County position and had full use of one of government in a management that government’s vehicles put in multiple claims to the state for mileage related to his legislative duties while driving a county stated it was just an oversight car and when later confronted His excuse “he thought he had used his personal vehicle those several times” and he was then allowed to just pay the money back There is a laundry list of serious ethics violations many criminal in nature that have never seen the light of day or have been swept under the carpet and new ones surface regularly Any attempts to pass any ethics legislation affecting the legislature itself hits the trash can If elected I will lead the charge for This just is loo important to let go meaningful ethics legislation on any longer There arc numerous additional examples of the continued intrusion by the Legislature into local government operations and the peoples right to self govern No wonder there is so much low voter turn out Quite frankly voter apathy and subsequent I think many of those in power actually work and hope for voter frustration A minority of Legislators opposes this type behav ior but the rest just follow along and try to stay under the radar My pledge to the citizens of District 68 is that I will do the work of an effective legislator representing the issues and sositions of the people as it relates to good well managed ethical state government but at the same time I will also guard against Mate government intrusion into the arena of local government of Complete ATV 4x4 Service off Pd do i I adv
