working around the state said the Utah Department of Commerce Travelers typiin neighborhoods cally go looking to perform con struct ion jobs such as asphalt paving roofing or painting A common tactic is for a salesman to approach a homcow ner about hav ing materials left over from another construction job and is w tiling to make a good deal to get rid of them f the homcow ner agrees the job is done to the work unprofessionally with substandard materials After the work is completed the salesman returns and presents an invoice with a much higher price than was tially agreed on The salesman compromises and then demands payment in cash or by check Once the travelers have used up a neighborhood they mov c to another location Be skeptical of anyone selling contractand do not be ing services pressured into accepting any work on a basis warns the Department of Commerce Always ask if the contractor is licensed and obtain a license number Verification may be done by contacting the Utah contractor for identification A valid Utah Driver's License is best Always ask for a written contract that completely describes the work as well as the cost Make sure any changes to the work and its cost aie documented in writing and keep a copy for your records Never pay for the work in full until the job is completed and remember if the deal sounds too good to be true it probably is Anyone that
