Wells and minutes by Betty Spcakman I aRecna Lydon gave the financial report staling that wc have 12 new members this month and welcomed Merrill Johnson of the Great Basin Natives of Holden who is a new member The CAN'T burial was discussed briefly and termed a success The sign is up and people arc stopping to see what it is all about and some left notes in the CAN can A list of almost 40 sites has been compiled and w ill be attached to a map showing their location Each of these sites needs to be identified by signs directing the tourist to the site The Chamber is asking for individual families businesses groups etc to take one of the sites and be responsible to hav c directional signs placed to guide the visitor to the site These can be very inexpensive T signs with old wood or whatever the group chooses The name of the should be placed on the back Material is av ailablc ask a Chamber member Special Speaker Mavor Sam Slarlcy first mentioned the CAN'T ceremonies and noted that he got a good sunburn He said that he thought speaker Clair Rogers was great a man that should be heard by youth groups in the communities and would be an inspiration to anyone Mayor said he wanted to talk about things that will let people have a better idea of City situations such as Fillmore's power is not furnished by Flow ell or Utah Power and Light Fillmore owns its electrical supply in shares from IPP San Juan Glen Canyon etc owns twice what it uses and sells power to California which it can call back and use when the need arises There is enough power available to support two more plants that use as much as the Cheese plant An unsung hero of the power world in Fillmore is Jim Larsen He works at UAMPS represents us EToldcn and Kanosh He is a ‘watch dog' when we are low he gets more This is free service a he refused salary Fillmore is presenily upgrading in a five year plan with new lines higher transmission and lower prices The five years of projects w ill give us all that w e need in the foreseeable future 2 Property taxes do not pay the costs of the city not even Law Inforccmcnt costs Taxeson vehicles far exceeds property taxes 3 Fillmore has plenty of water rights to support growth It has about 50 years worth ni have three sources of water First is a spring which produces 4000 gallonsof water a minute Theothcrtwo arc wells west of town (W'e own two Icsscrwcllswcdon't use Ourwaternghts arc three times what wc use We are working on projects for five to ten years in advance Growth will come like it or not and we will be ready Fillmore City docs not control the sprinkler system Fillmore Water Users is in charge of lhal We coordinate with them A rate change here would have those ho use more pay more Fillmore considers the Golf Course as one of the City Parks and will only strict them if wc have to the other parks Water we provide for the driving range would go downstream if not used Working with the Golf Course is a wonderful setup for the City other cities envy it We will conserve but arc OK If the w ell drops wc will put into effect the other system 4 Great Lakes Cheese plant does pay taxes This is a good investment for Fillmore According to agreements with the plant if they do certain things agreed to in the contract they will receive tax breaks They are doing better than agreed Hope they double size of plant Good neighbors don't pollute good employer good benefit packages 5 Fillmore City has not as has been rumored run off Walmart There has been no contact regarding a Walmart in this area Sidewalks W e are doing a plan with citizens They work on base and forms and City pays for the cement saving half the costs Doing the most dangerous sidewalks first The 3 Ward organized and is doing a lot of the worst spots with volunteer help Cemetery Marker of Gunnison buried in 1853 is misplaced and will be moved This should be on the “site list" as he was killed in The Gunnison Massacre Mayor Starlcy asked for help in
