Show n9wm Millard Countv Chronicle Progress March 28 2002 Page 5 Eskdale High School Music Festival SEOP Conferences Spring Break and Snow Day Delegation Please remember that there will be no school on the 28th and 29th of March because of Spring Vacation and unless it is used for snow reasons there will be no school on Monday April 1st Have a wonderful Spring break' of Millard County Residents Military Memorial Continued from front page memorial' motto of “All Gave Some Some Gave All " A groundbreaking ceremony for the wall of veterans names was held Mar 25 2000 After completion thememonalwas dedicated by LDS President James E Faust on a chilly Nov 4 2000 afternoon The memorial committee received a letter Sept 13 2001 from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge indicating the had been chosen for the award Knox and Judy Huntsman entered the memorial in the Freedoms Foundation National Awards Program The Freedoms Foundation honored several other individuals and organizations Brigadier General Stanley Gordon presented certificates and medals to this year's hero award winners as Don Gale narrated their accomplishments Gale said Olympic volunteer Drake Self jumped onto the track at the omen's luge races and helped stop an unmanned luge aimed toward the helpless rider lying on the track He lost the tip of his right index finger during his act of heroism The Catholic Community ices of Utah w as honored for help given to the needy Fireman Mike Riley accepted the medal for the Salt Lake Urban Search and Rescue Utah Task Force One Riley was one of several fire fighters who volunteered their time and energy to help in the World Trade Center recovery effort Riley talked about the outpouring of patriotism and donations from the local community w hile they were awaiting transportation from Hill Air Force Base to New York City He said Utah Task Force One presented the donations to the New York City fire partment where they had been assigned Gale told of the heroic efforts of Ronald O Brandon w ife Susan and Willis J Randall While fishing in choppy waters in Scofield reservoir last October faint they heard through the high winds a call for help They pulled out of the icy w aters four duck hunters including a boy whose boat had overturned The hcros delivered the victims to a ranger on shore and returned to the scene of the accident to search for the other two duck hunters to no avail high school juniors received scholarships and will attend a conference at the Foundation’s campus in Valley Forge Delta South Elementary V DSE 4th Graders Hold Rendezous On Friday March 5 there were mountain men and Indians galore at Delta South Elementary These rugged fourth graders met at the annual rendezvous They tested their skills at arm and leg w resiling horse shoes bow and arrows and target throw A mountain man from over Scipio way came and taught a few songs The students also learned to make Indian fry bread and even made harmonicas that sounded like geese calls That afternoon a hootin' and hollerin' hoc down was held Fun was had by all!
