Show Millard Community Events J County Chronicle Prooress March 2002 Page 14 5 President Millard Fillmore Library By Jeanne Hkiiaker Assistant Librarian If you have been anxiously waiting for the new Hcimerdingcr the title is Warriors of Cumorah it has finally arrived and is on the shelf or at least it was 15 minutes ago We also received two new Anita StansfickJ novels We ordered these books several months ago and were ve’y pleased to finally receive them We have also added several new Newberry Award winners to our collection and promise to keep adding to this collection until it is complete Please take a few minutes to come in and find something that interests you The Fillmore Elementary and Fillmore Middle schools have given us copies of 25 Saaih 104 Hast Fillmore I Ink their accelerated reading lists these lists are kept on the front desk of the library for your convenience Don't feel timid about asking for our help when you need to find a book The Library is still taking donations of aluminum cans These cans are sold for recycling purposes the funds received are then used to purchase books for the brary So be kind to the environment and to the library all in one easy step We have placed a plastic wadirg pool on the north end of our front porch just place your bags of cans in this pool anytime Thank you for your continued support “Beryllium” the Subject of Historical Presentation Gardner Celebrate and Betty Kimball 60th Gardner and Belly will celebrate their 60“ wedding anmcrsary at their home in Orem Utah on March 27 They were married in Las Vegas Nevada in 1942 and later solemnized their union in the Salt Lake Temple March II 1971 At age 93 Gardner is an av id reader of both the Wall Street Journal and the Salt Lake Tribune as well as one with lots of commentary about football and basketball events he enjoys watching on telcv ision he still loves to forecast the weather patterns throughout Utah At 79 Betty enjoys her employment with Nu Skin International in Provo and keeping tabs on the children and three great grandchildren Son Ira resides in Las Vegas NV Nancy Boulder CO Kathryn Longmont CO and Sarah Prov idcncc UT A family celebration to honor the couple is being planned later this spring by the March 21 Brush On Thursday Wellman w ill present a program concerning the history of the Brush Wellman plant in Millard County and a film show mg how Beryllium ore is processed and what it is used for The Great Basin Museum and Historical Society is sponsoring this program which will be held at the Delta North Elementary school and will start at 7 00 p m Although Beryllium was first discovered more than two centuries ago as a naturally occurring metallic element found in rocks coal and oil and even in soil it was not until the I940's and 50's that beryllium began to be used in industrial applications Today this unique metal is used in a wide number of products cause has physical and mechanical properties unmatched by any other metal Six times stronger than steel and yet 23 the weight of aluminum Beryllium has become a star performer in the age of space exploration computers and instant communication systems Don't miss the chance to learn more about this metal which is mined and initially processed right here in Millard County This program is free to all and light refreshments will be served Stacy Tasker and Dustin Fowler Tasker -
