Veterans’ Day November 2 to listening to and honoring veterans During the morning classes rotated to various displays and exhibits Ken Porter discussed World War II literature while students looked at World War II artifacts brought by Wilbur Walton The Utah National Guard had a weapons display and let the students peer down some of the heavy artillery Merrill Dutson assembled and discussed a display of various American flags Grant Frandsen is shown pointing out artifacts such as tiger fatigues and bayonets from the Korean War and Vietnam War Frandsen and his family were later honored for their military service His grandparents Vance and Pearl Frandsen had four sons Calvin Russell Richard and Weston serve in World War II and four of their grandsons Richard Lynn Frandsen Robert Christensen Lavar Frandsen and Grant Frandsen served in Vietnam and'or Korea Three family members served in the army two in the air force two in the navy and one in the marines were sometimes made of Dennis photograph & Char- Photograph donated Delta South Hosts Veterans The afternoon of November 2 Delta South hosted an assembly honoring veterans The Utah National Guard conducted the (lag ceremony and Ken Lebbon sang several and patriotic songs with students assisting with “God Bless The USA" Joanie Shantay Tegan Schena also sang “I Pledge Allegiance" While Mr Lebbon sang a medley of the armed forces’ anthems over 70 veterans stood when the flag representing their branch of the service was posted The program also recognized the American Legion Auxiliary and Mrs Alice Larson a gold star mother As in the first assembly held six years ago the the program featured a moment of silence in memory of fallen soldiers At the end of then program the veterans posed for a picture received certificates of appreciation and enjoyed a luncheon in their honor On Mon Nov 12 Dennis Leavitt and his wife Charlotte visited FMS where they presented a beautiful photograph of two wild mustangs fighting entitled “Eye of the Storm” Mr Leavitt explained that when he was told the FMS mascot was the mustang he thought it would be appropriate for this unusual photograph to hang in the school Mr Leavitt told those present that about two and a half years ago he and his wife started going to the west desert in the hope of getting videos of wild horses They went about two weekends a month for quite some time without success In April 999 they purchased a 25 mmm camera to try still pictures instead In July of that year he took the photography that is at the school The Leavitt's were sitting in a blind built by hunters at the middle pond of Swasey Spring They went into the blind built by hunters at the middle stay until dark At about 3:30 pm two bay studs began fighting over a paint mare The fight continued for a half hours and according to Mr Leavitt watching it was the “thrill of a lifetime" The photograph is now hanging in a prominent spot in the office for all to enjoy it A special thank you to the Leavitt's for their generous gift to the school Win Awards The halls of Delta South have reflected the students’ patriotism all month On one wall photographs of all the students compose an American flag under the words "Delta South Loves the USA" Other walls feature the essays and art work that students did on the theme “What American Means to Me" At the assembly November 2 winners of the essay art work and coloring book received their awards from Michelle Nielson who represented Zion’s Bank the sponsor Tyrel Meinhardt received First place in the essays followed by Tori Babb 2nd Kassidy Peterson 3rd and Shakcll Nielson 4th Winning artists included Tiffany Davis and Hannah Egan st place and Joseph Visser and Teasha Moody 2nd place Teresa Brown st place with her coloring book with M ichael Burr 2nd place Emily Judkins 3rd won school place and Courtni Dutson 4th place The winners are pictured below flags in the foyer They include 1st row: Teasha
