The photograph below will give you some 00 X using a wide in a pair of good binoculars Some of the best views are at around field of view eyepiece Forgotten patient Christmas project Dear Editor It’s time to recruit volunteers to help with our Forgotten Patient Christmas Project This project has helped thousands of Utah’s mentally ill at the Utah State Hospital to enjoy Christmas over the past 35 years Once again we are asking for your help to get the word out to Utah citizens that their help is needed in sponsoring a forgotten patient this Christmas season Your assistance is printing our announcement has been critical part of making our project successful for man years Would you please run the following announcement again this year Christmas is a time to be joyful and a time to be with family and friends For many of the patients at Utah State Hospital Christmas can be a sad and lonely time of year Many patients are unable to spend the holidays with the ones they love Each year the Hospital asks for help from the community to provide a Christmas for the patients that are alone Sponsors are asked to help with gifts for a patient ranging in age from six to ninety who would have no Christmas without the help of groups families and individuals in the community The Forgotten Patient Christmas Project was designed to help provide Christmas gifts for these people who need to be remembered The success of the program depends totally on volunteers from the community and there are a variety of ways in which they can help They can take a patient name and provide Christmas for that one person they can send us a cash donation and hospital volunteers will do the shopping or donations of generic items can be made that can be used for anyone such as socks underwear deodorant brushes candy etc The Forgotten Patient Christmas Project is often the only touch of the holiday season that these people may experience Please feel the spirit of giving this holiday season and sponsor a forgotten patient For further information on how you can help contact Shawna Peterson Volunteer Director at Your help in advertising our Project has been critical to the success of the Forgotten Patient Christmas Project The prefect time for reaching the public is between Thanksgiving weekend and the second or third week of December If you could run this release during this time we would greatly appreciate it Thank you so much for your help in the past and for your help this Christmas Our best wishes to you for a joyous Holiday and a wonderful new year Sincerely Sbawna Peterson Volunteer Director Utah State Hospital (t V SSB 'Delta’ Art “7T Delta Area Chamber of Commerce By Valerie Mason Cofnmrcf These two photographs were taken at a magnification of approximately 75x The small inset was taken at a magnification of 200x in the same telescope of the areas marked by the arrow During the early evening when our moon presents observing problems just remove the sun filter and enjoy the lunar landscape Some of the interesting tasks or challenges when observing the moon is to watch along the terminator (the line between darkness and light of the moon) which travels at roughly 10 miles per hour As one watches the terminator new features seem to pop out of nowhere and the contrasting shadow change the surface features from minute to minute Look for small cratcrlets that you could not see just an hour before Often craters within craters suddenly become visible A rift or valley on the surface will catch just the light contrasting light angle and it will jump into view One could spend days just finding new objects Then of course during this month are the planets Jupiter and Saturn that dominate our night sky and now with the great atmospheric conditions are beautiful objects even with 00X range In the early morning a small telescope capable of magnifications in the hours about an hour before dawn look for the brilliant planet Venus and Mercury in the constellation of Virgo For those that own telescopes in the six inches of aperture or better and would like a real challenge try locating the faint planets Uranus and Neptune both presently located in the constellation of Capricomus These will resolve into tiny disks that are nice against the velvet sky Both of these planets can be seen with binoculars but will not resolve into a disk Only their color will help in finding them The diagram below in conjunction with a planisphere will help in locating them So whether we have a moonless night or not there is still plenty to do basically in our backdoor being the Solar System Enjoy our beautiful dark Utah skies!
