Show Millard High School Reporter - Celeste Jolley c Sand Rock Ridgeriders spruce up the trails krtox Huntsman and Sherry Shepard The ATV trail in Fillmore's lowerC'hjIk reck Canyon area as over grown and presenting sjfcty hazards Approximately three dozen members of the new ly formed Sand Rock Ridgeriders ATV Club marshaled forces to cut back the undergrowth the evening of August 10 Part of the charier for the new club is to improve the AIV trails The group Inmmcd low overhanging bushes moved rocks to improve stream crossings picked up litter and rerouted the stream to improve fish habitat After the work there luck barbecue at Pistol Rock was a ith a short busi ( ampground combined by ness planning meeting The club will sponsor a ride for Salt Lake City's Ltah ATV' Association on September 15 There will be a morning ride in the Dry Wash - Big Oaks near Kanosh lunch at the Adelaide Campground east of Kanosh and then ride the scenic loop in the afternoon Those riders eh out trailers will assemble at the Pod in illmore and leave for Kanosh at 8 30 am Additional details forthcoming eryone is invited for more information call Sherry Shepard Ross Melville or Sheri Dcardcn Great Basin Museum News By Stndy Mt Uichael he museum is opened Mon thru Sat 10 a m until 4 p m We are located next to ( itizcns elephonc Office We will be open for the Labor Day weekend As sou enter the museum you sec a wall of photos The title of the exhibit is "DELTA SOW "and starts with the names that Delta went through before Delta became lilt I'lCMtlicialname The narrative explaining the names is taken from Milestones of Millard by Stella II Day and Sebrma kins and explains the origin of Aiken Melville Burtner and Della there is a piogrcssion of pictures of Della's Main Street (formerly Clark Street the list one is dated 0 4 then 1923 then one from the 950’s and final ly 98 We get many visitors who have been in Delta before and it's interesting to see which Della they relate to (or arc most familiar with) the early 3 here arc pictures showing early businesses in Delta such as the Hub Merc Delta ( its Ollicc with the library and the fire department and a picture of the Land which also has Ciran! (Shine) Church's father sitting on the back of a horse Office drawn waeon here is a picture of the furniture store lent and the first post ofTice dated 1910 with Henry McCullough standing in front There are a couple of pictures show ing the Depot and the Bank Hotel There is a picture of a fire at Delta Merc Co from 1922 wheie there is only a bucket brigade We have a print of the painting that Rosemary orster did showing Main St in 1952 As well as a painting done by Jcrold Bishop of the Aveiy Bishop house here is a map of Plat B Burtner fownsitc dated 1909 as well as a map from the Sanborn Map Co of Delta dated 1918 I here is also a picture of the high school taken from an article in the Tribune dated July 15 1950 The interest in the article is that the picture was taken with the (at that time) only helicopter in Utah We have the pictures of the flumes (as written about previously) and some of the dams along with pictures of the Sevier River showing some of its horse shoe and ox bow We have a photo that bends (Wc also have postcards for sale of the Sevier River displays the likeness to Joseph Smith in the Great Stone Face which amazes some of the out of state visitors to the museum but others don't always see the resemblance Come for sec and by yourself THE NEWEST FUN & CHALLENGING GAME IS S!
