Her family was always on the go Every two years she was enrolled in a new school Mrs Hams is enjoying her work in the Delta North fourth grade “The children make feel It’s loved and so great to be back!” she responds important you Second Graders Quilt Again! This past month the second graders in Mrs Bliss’ class have been studying geometry through quilts They have also been exposed to literature and history Many beautiful quilts were shared from home that the students brought and then with donated material the students made fourteen lap or baby quilts for service On Monday January 29 the students were able to make four quilts from start to finish with the help of a few mothers and grandmothers The quilts were given to the Division of Family Services and the West Millard Care Center in hopes they will be needed The class would like to thank all those who donated material and time They had a lot of fun and learned at the same time! This is the seventh year the second grade at Delta North has done quilting as a service learning project Pan Jam Visits Delta North Every week should end way the week of January 29 ended at Delta North! We had chili in bread bowls for lunch lowed by a great Cambean music assembly featured by Pan Jam! That’s Pan Jam not Pearl Jam! It was indeed a jamboree of great artistic entertainment fea’ turing Carribean pans! The Ron Brough family pan jam preparing back stage for their afternoon from Utah Valley pre- performance at ONES sented the 50 minute program to a spellbound audience Our Delta North Busy Bees thrilled at the performance of the Cambean steel drum band Ron an associate professor of percussion at BYU and his musically talented family shared their talents individually and collectively with the audience We were fascinated with the history of the steel drums which originated in Trinidad after World War II These drums were made out of crude oil barrels that littered the countryside after oil rigs popped up throughout the small island nation The unique sound of these drums is truly amazing Students were invited to dance under the limbo stick as part of the program Fifth graders Kyle Hill and Bryce Cloward delighted fellow classmates with their ability to perform this difficult feat Watching our beloved “MrR” twist and turn to the rhythmic beat was entertainment in and of itself We thank Ron Draper and the West Millard Cultural Council for providing this great show for us We invite Pan Jam to visit our school anytime when they are in the area the Elementary On Mon Jan 29 it was the 100th day of the school year In the First Grade classes they had a great deal of fun celebrating it Students had a full day of “100’s" They got to do some things 100 times They each brought things to share with the other classmates which they counted to 100 All of the First Grade classes met in the afternoon in the auditorium for a 100 balloon drop The students really enjoyed everything about the l By DHS Western Ag Credit Scholarship open for all senior students whose parhave a farmlivestock loan from Western Ag Credit The deadline will be Mar Last week when the 5th grade students had their ‘Colonial Day’ the students all worked on a tied quilt The classes decided that they would donate the quilt to the Care Center in Delta The students really enjoyed making the quilt and their hoping that who ever uses it at the Care Center enjoys it also The quilting materials were donated by Mrs Roundy We appreciate the donation is Feb 15 Independent Insurance Agents of Utah Scholarship for $1000 is open to all nior students planning on a career in business or insurance The deadline is Apr 6 2001 Commitment to Ag Scholarship for all senior students whose income is at least 50 from a farming source Students must be going out in agriculture The deadline is Feb 15 The University of Utah Political Science Scholarship for senior students studying political science at the U of U is due by Feb 5 All Flying J Scholarships are due Mar 15 It is open to all seniors based on work experience extracurricular activities and need Music audition scholarships at the U DHS COPY Flora Tnllo Jessica and Heather Stuart Chnstensen Melinda Steele This week in 5th grade students in Mrs Messer’s class set off their volcanoes during Science class It was a great event There were some very creative ideas Everybody waited with anticipation as each of the volcanoes were made ready to erupt There are always some surprises the students had a great time! Valene was bom in Mesa Arizona She has lived in Arizona Utah Alaska Idaho and Oklahoma She has one brother and two sisters She graduated from Orem High School Her post high school studies were completed at Ricks College and BYU She is mamed to Bryan Harris a Richfield Utah native The Hams’ met while Valene was teaching school at Salma Elementary and living in Richfield Bryan delivered her furniture and it was love at first sight!
