Show Millard County Chronicle Reflections 2001 at DNES “W'ouidn’t It Be Strange If “the sun didn’t set" “ berries exploded" “you turned around and Micky and Minnie were dancing with you” and “a bird could teach school" were just a few of the ideas Delta North Elementary students came up with for the Reflections contest this year Students shared their talents in art literature music dance and photography All students received a certificate and ribbon while the first second and third place winners were given medals The first and second place entries will now move on to the region competition and then from there possibly the state level Darlene Scott Shelly Wright Holly Cook and LaRene Rawlinson spent many hours preparing for Karen the competition Shurtz also donated the mats used for displaying the children’s pictures which gave them a very professional look Thank you to these people for making Reflections a success this Caribbean Steel Drums to perform in Delta Once again the community of Delta will be favored by a performance of a Caribbean steel drum band on Fri Feb 2 2001 at 7:30 pm at the Delta High Auditorium Pan Jam directed by Ron Brough an associate professor of percussion at BYU will be performing the exciting variety of music the comes from the unique sound of a Caribbean steel drum Several years ago we were delighted by the music of Panoramic Steel BYU’s traveling steel drum band which was also directed by Ron Brough Since then Professor Brough has formed his own band made up from members of his family and named the new band Pan Jam A Caribbean steel drum is not just a percussion instrument but is a unique and finely crafted instrument made by hammering each musical note in the top of the drum or pan The drums that Pan Jam uses were made by master builder'tuner Elbe Mannette W hat began as a crude instrument following its inception on the Caribbean Island of Trinidad after World War II had evolved into refined family of instruments with a full range of pitch capable of rendering virtually any style of music from classical to jazz and pop as well as indigenous calypso Since 1994 Pan Jam has played “pan" throughout the state and Utah to enthusiastic audiences of all ages There concerts are an informal mix of musical styles terspersed with information about this fun happy form of music At times audience participated extends to being invited to dance under the limbo stick Admission to this excellent concert is only $5 for adults and S4 for students and seniors In additions there is a special family price of only S20 The West Millard Cultural Council is pleased to present Pan Jam as their first concert of the Winter Season You may want to also put on your calendar the following two concerts Peter Davison juggler dancer actor and artist who transpoet: A forms the stage into a magical world of motion of Fri Mar 2 at 730 pm BYU Singers the premier touring singing group from BYU will make a stop in Delta on Fri Mar 30 For more information about any of these concerts contact Ron Draper at DNE Spelling Bee for Breanne Memhardt Visual Arts Winners: Goodrich Anes Pe&oza McKendne Wnght tin Frazier Photography frey Hams Winners: Mark Hams Emilee Thompson Brooke and Aus- Mark Scott Jef- and DN Sa- Winners: Devri Rachel Samantha LeFevre and Rosey Fitzgerald Broderick Goodrich Mindy Losee Wins “Mrs T" likes to keep busy She has tons of energy and likes to be on the go! She has worked as a waitress secretary teacher and administrator She is currently serving as principal of the CBA Center in Delta In her spare time she enjoys vacations with her family playing racquetball and collecting Precious Moments figurines From her elementary years she fondly remembers her Kindergarten teacher Mrs Barbara Nielsor The Kindergarten class took a fieldtnp to Delta They rode the tram to town and then visited the Cheese Plant She distinctly remembers the smell! Mrs Thompson is enjoying her time at Delta North She is extremely impressed with the tune dedication and commitment of the teachers staff and volunteers at the school She is doing a great job She is known as Mr Bassett’s right arm leg brain etc We don’t know what we’ll do without her when her time at our school is up! It was “love at second bike!"
