Demolition Derby” The crowd froze as the chilly weather slid into the lower 40’s but the participants kept alive and warm in the arena “The adrenaline warmed me up real quick” said Powder Puff winner Kim By Smith Kim was one of the seven high school students who participated in the derby Other high school students were Adam Jake McDermaid Luke Beckstrom Abbott Kyle Rowlette Brady Johnson and Amanda Crafts “I do it because of the rush you get when you wreck things” said Kyle Rowlette “My favorite part was when crushed Scott Abbott into the berm” said Brady Johnson A highlight of the derby was the first ever Figure Eight Race with Compact Cars The winner had to complete the figure eight track twenty times The challenge is avoiding the other cars in the middle of the figure eight The winner of this competition was Dave Abbott Winners of the main event were TJ Stanworth who placed first winning $1200 followed by his cousin Travis Stanworth who won $500 The third place winner was Neil Clayton earning $400 The most aggressive driver was also awarded $400 This went to Troy Babb After the main event most of the crowd disappeared due to the cold temperature The derby went on The
