Court tn reference to a civ il matter After being processed at the jail Bow cun was able to post the bond and was released 00 p m Maria D hittaker aka Maria Moton 22 Salt Lake City was transported from the Salt Lake County Jail by Ll Forest Roper Whittaker was arrested in SLC on a no bail warrant that had been issued by 4 District Court Judge Gary Stott in May of this year W hittaker had been arrested in Fillmore on February 13® of this year after leadine deputies on a chase She was convicted on felony counts in a plea bargain that w aboriginally charged as fleeing evading an officer possession of cocaine possession of a stolen vehicle and a number of misdemeanors After her com ictions W hittaker failed to appear for sentencing and the warrant was issued She is being held without bond until her appearance in court 58 p m Raymond L Medina 21 Henderson SV was arrested at mp 178 on by Set Jim Masner Medina was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup when he was stopped for speeding 91 miles per hour in a 75 zone His driver’ license was revoked due to a DL’l conviction in Nevada Medina was transported to jail and charged into East Millard Justice Court with Class C misd speeding and driving on revocation He posted the S340 cash bond and was released Wednesday September 6® near 8 35 am 91 dispaten received reports of a one car roll over at mp 188 on Scipio (See front page story ) 8 00 p m Judd R Christensen 19 Holden was arrested at the Paradise Chevron Station in Fillmore by Ltah Hievay Patrol Trooper Mike Thomas Christensen was driving a 1988 Volkswagon Fox when he was stopped for a seat belt violation Thomas could smell alcohol in the vehicle and subsequent tests showed Christensen had consumed alcohol A vehicle search uncovered cans of beer inside the vehicle as well Christensen was transported to jail and charged into Fillmore City Justice Court with Class B misd underage consumption of alcohol while driving and also a seat belt infraction Christensen posted the S505 bond and was released He is also currently on a plea in abevance agrecmcnt from the 4® District Court for his involvement in a felony poaching incident last year The Millard County Attorney’s Office is expected to charge for bleaching the terms of that agreement which requires no future law violations II 55 pm Jose A Mendoza 21 Scipio UT was rested in Fillmore by Deputy Steve O’Camb and Trooper Mike Thomas Mendoza was driving a 1992 Geo Metro when he was stopped for running a stop sign and speeding 60 mph in a 40 zone O’Camb could smell alcohol inside the vehicle and asked Mendoza to perform field sobnciy tests susprior to his arrest Mendoza's drivers license was also pended and he was transported to jail He was charged into FCJC with Class B misd DL'l alcohol and Class C misd speeding failure to stop at a stop sign and driving on a suspended license Bail was set at S5000 cash only by Judge Ron Hare The high bail amount is due to that fact that this is Mendoza's 6 DUI arrest since December of 1997 He has spent 385 days in jail here on 9 different v tsits since then This DL'l charge however is only a Class B misd (like a first offense) since four of his DL'l arrests have been dismissed in plea bargains The fifth is still pending in EMJC Mendoza has been convicted in Utah and Arizona of fleeing evading an officer which is a 3 degree fek ny He is believed to be on burglary m progress at 467 East 370 North in Delta (See front page story ) 2 00 p m Aaron Walter Ridgley 29 Delta UT was arrested at Delta High School by workSgt Jcffk hatcott and Detective Roger Young Deputies learned that Ridgley was him on a S925 cash only warrant ing on a construction project at the school and arrested The warrant had been issued by Delta City Justice Court Judge Stan Robison for visit to the Millard County Ridgley failure to obey a court order This is Ridgley’s Jail where he has served 18 days since September of 1997 Friday September 8' 10 37 a m Michelle Susan Garcia 26 Colorado was arrested at mp 148 on by Rod Elmer Garcia was driving a 1983 Chevy Monte Carlo Troopcr'sTomSchneiterand w hen she was stopped for speeding in a construction zone Schneiter could smell alcohol inside the vehicle and located open containers inside as well Garcia performed field sobriety tests prior to her arrest She was transported to jail and charged into EMJC with Class B misd no vehicle insurance DUJ drugs speeding and having an open 330 bond container of alcohol in a vehicle She was released after posting a 43 a m Jeremy S Yates aka Jeremy Prince 21 Delta was transported from the Northern Utah Community Correctional Center to the Millard County Jail on a probation violation Yates was at NUCCC (a half way house) after spending 410 days in jail here on nine different visits since October of 1998 He has been arrested for crimes including burglary auto theft and aggravated assault ates will be held in jail without bond as was ordered in the arrest warrant signed by 4® District Court Judge Gary Stott His next appearance will be September 28® 2000 4 30 pm David ESnowm 19 Provo Ut was transported from the Utah County Jail by Lt Forrest Roper Snow was arrested in Utah County on a 52000 cash only warrant that had been issued by Judge Hare for failure to appear on alcohol and traffic charges from a Nov ember 999 incident Snow is still incarcerated and will be appearing in court this week Saturday September 9® 1230 am Bret Allen Collins 40 Delta UT was arrested by Deputies Cameron Lebbon and Brett Nielson for an incident that occurred at an apartment in Delta Collins allegedly assaulted a female at that location in front of a child Collins was transported to jail and charged into DCJC with Class B misd domestic assault with a child present Bail has been set at 5925 cash only by Judge Ron Hare Collins has spent 96 days in jail here on 6 visits since October of 999 He has been arrested for crimes including drug possession theft joyriding and traffic offenses 2 30 pm Ghanim Yousef Alotaibi 21 SLC was arrested at 5 by Trooper Rod Elmer Alotaibi was driving a mp 153 0' 997 Plymouth Breeze when he was stopped for speeding in a construction zone A record check showed that his driver’s license was suspended and his vehicle registration expired in January of 2000 He was transported to jail and charged into EMJC with Class B misd possession of a concealed weapon and Class C misd speeding driving on suspensions and expired registration Alotaibi posted a 5945 bond and was released Sunday September 10® 6 3 pm 91 dispatch received reports of an injured male subject at 3980 West 4500 South Deputy Brett Nielson responded along with the West Millard Ambulance Nielson said that a group of friends was in a green 1993 Honda Civic when two of the boys decided they wanted to ride on the trunk of the car As the car made the turn at the intersection of 4500 S and Deseret Main Street a boy lost his gnp and slid off the trunk onto the roadway He hit his head on the pavement before skidding approx 10 feet down the road on his back Witnesses said the boy went into convulsions for approx 30 seconds and was unconscious The boy was transported to Delta Hospital where he was examined and then transferred to a northern Utah hospital by Life Flight Two 7 year old boys were cited as a result of the incident one for allowing a passenger to nde in an un designated area and the other for riding there too EMS Fire and Accidents There were fifteen ambulance runs this week with West Millard responding to nine and East Millard and Scipio three each There were six fire calls this week including fire rescue and also a car fire There were eight traffic accidents this week four with injury including one fatality Thanks for your Patrol Troopers drove 4168 miles this week while investigating a number of accidents and stopping 3 vehicles There were 57 tickets and 8 warnings issued for speeding and 3 tickets and one warning for excessive window tinting Among other violations there were nine stops where drug or alcohol offenses were charged Speeder MCSO Eeputies issued 149 speeding tickets on speed enforcement shifts this tickets written for speeds of week The average speed was 9207 mph and there were 100 mph or higher Deputy Morris Burton wrote the top speed of the week at 113 mph and added a 05 mph in a 65 zone also provided Arts Festival were well rewarded with the eant w ill be held at the Millard rate talent By Betty Jo Speak man There is no question as to the calibre of art that was presented at the Old Capitol Arts Festival Friday and Saturday in Fillmore-- it was of highest quality The public looked “oohed” “aahed” and claimed at the beauty of the paintings charcoals sculptures statues pottery woodcarvings and blacksmith art as they enjoyed the displays in the Park Gallery where weather was perfect Saturday But artists were disappointed— people were not buying as they hoped and expetted They began to question “Shall we keep doing this®” Hundreds of hours put into their work showed in its quality and beauty Many artists voiced their concern “They (artists) will not come back again if they don’t sell” one local artist said as she stood amid a display of paintings that would be welcomed in any gallery Suzanne Limburg Arts Festival Chairvoiced her concern ov er low sales of top art “It’s the lowest we’ve ever had and the art is as good or better than ever don’t hope the artists will return derstand why people aren't buying as well this year®" Maybe the public can answer that There was a good local turnout despite two weddings a funeral and a football man game Limburg said she had hoped for more visitors from outlying areas but appreciates the ones that came as well as the
