Is it because it makes better sense economically0 Or is it because that is the way it was when wc were students and things hase always been done that way? As we began looking at these issues the question was raised in the Delta area about the salue ot primary grades and intermediate grades schools Is there salue or benefit in in one school and in grades grouping students at the elementary level in grades another’' in Merely asking these questions led some people to believe that it was a “done deal” and that this was going to be forced upon them This couldn’t be further from the truth went through a process of gathering information from parents naff and districts using this configuration to help determine if this concept was even worth considering After looking at all of the data the Board made the decision that this concept was will be spending more time this year wonh further investigation visiting schools and will involve parents patrons staff and districts whore this concept is in place Board members in gathering and icvicwing the information At the conclusion of the school year the Board will make a decision on whether this concept is of salue to the students in our district or not Absolutely no conclusion has been reached at this time As you hear of things being discussed that impact our schools would hope that you will continually evaluate wouldn't rush to the conclusion that it is a “done deal” what wc are doing and investigate current trends in education By so doing we will continue to improve and be able to provide the best education possible for our students A couple of weeks ago the finding cf the planet Lrunus m the constellation of xM) binoculars and could with Capncomus was discussed The author used a pair of to great ease make out that it was definitely different from the background stars due its telescope color Using a six inches of aperture pale ty pel and a magnification of 175 X the (this type telescope is a hybrid cloud areas the across with some white a disk disk appeared as tiny pea shaped layers It was relatively easy to find in this thinly starred area of the sky Did any of our readers have any luck? If not you'll have to wait until we have a moonless sky to locate it the overwhelming glare of the Moon and dun of the stars Capncomus amongst Many of us that look at the sky at night take it for granted that from season to season that it is basically unchanging with the exception that different constellations come and go However there are many changes that happen for those that wish to detail the heavens on a regular basis For instance in the constellation of Cetus “The Sea Monster” the star Mira (Omicron Cell) vanes in brightness over a penod of 331 days It will disappear at 9“ magnitude and nse to at least the 3 magnitude and sometime rarely to the 2“ magnitude Once in 1779 it rose to almost the I” magnitude to equal the light output of the star Aldebaran in the constellation of Taurus “The Bull" Mira is trans lated to mean in Arabic as “The AAonderful” hen Mira is known as a periodic variable star that is about 220 light years from us at us faintest stage it is about as bright as our Sun and at its maximum brightness w ill be some 250 times bnghter In 177 it must have reached a maximum of 1100 times the luminosity of our own Sun Can you imagine what this star would be like in our Solar System with such variability0 Life as we know it could never form under such extremes To put this in a more understandable perspective Mita could swell to a diameter of a minimum of 500 times the diameter of our Sun Our Sun's diameter is about 865000 miles and Mira would then be around 433000000 miles This distention in size would bnng its outer photosphere will beyond the orbit of the planet Alars For those that wish to locate this beautiful red star classed as an M9 Type due to its low surface temperature of degrees Kelv in look to the southeast after 22 00 and use the diagram below VAatch this star brighten with each passing week and then It is far more dramatic if you use a diminish to naked eyes invisibility pair of binoculars to at least the 9° and 19 magnitudes that will allow you to see litMilMMi: These medical specialists are available at Delta Community Fillmore Community Medical Center Call the number listed Center and an appointment Medical for AUDIOLOGY lumber id ommercc meeting was Sept 6 2lHN)at lumbers in ity Building with arry ( lumber president conducting Brochures made b laReena at Pahvant Printers to be given to tourists at the information center were discussed this that Notice for is the last month the contest for a slogan for the lie choice sign west ol town was made will be made and announced next meetII vou luxe a ing great idea now is the to Mary f lliott lanr Paxton time to get or Arlene Bartholomew report on the Jamboral by Bob Sanderson indicated that the Jamboral was a plus in exerv wav for the community here were no incidents reported by the Sheriffs Department and no adverse comments Dust existed but didn't affect the cits The swimming pool came a little muddv with the Scouts wishbut ing to wash otf some of the dust tlicv were welcome in the city (ireeg trom Burger King said they did a boom town business the and Dinn's P11 reported super business inv campers said they didn't know about illmore before but added they wouUI be b ick he car wash had a great Saturdav larry's Drixe In had big ( Paxton sales reporting businesses said business belter with one ‘no change' (iuest talent and speakers liked the Lee ception and treatment they received liked the 'down home cookin' (ireenwixHl lie got here better than the Pizza he was served in Oregon he said Arlene did a great job catering to the guests A Jamboral is set for 2010 but it has already been determined that another will have to take place before that as there has been such a demand for one in about 5 years Ground has been broken for the Cheese It's on its way' plant and the water is in Rayma Day gave report on plans for Christmas activities the Lighted Parade on Nov 25 Park Displays Program in Park encourage families to get homes decorated as soon as possible after hich will Thanksgiv mg for the contest be judged on Dec 5 Memorial to be dedicated on Novem4 ber Committee is working hard to see that all is in readiness and expects lots ot people in town A dcxirpnze as giv cn (perhaps a bribe to get more members to meetings) and was on by Don Fulmer was Ad Design magnification heldonAAediieMliv icecream All Walker Kathy Walker -
