Knight led our students in some songs sshile cast members changed scenes betsscen shosss Drug Free Schools Instructor Sharalee Young and Presention Dimensions Specialist Margaret Pruitt is ere on hand to speak to students as ssell about the ices of tobacco and other drugs e thank these three great ladies as well as the high school students for the time and eflort they spent in preparing this program for us Their message is an important one for all of us to learn DNES PTA keeps busy The Delta North Elementary PTA under the capable leadership of President Laura Santos is foreser buss bringing great programs to the Delta North Busy Bees The 5 was proclaimed NO IV Wl I K Students were encouraged to turn week of April off the boob tube not watch sideos nor play any games requiring the TV It was a challenge but oser 100 Buss Bees returned pledge sheets to the PTA indicating that they had been TV REL during the 6 das period They were rewarded with candy prizes for their monumental ellorts' Thank you PI A for making us create ways to use our time more wisely than “segetating" in front oftheTV During the week of April 17 the PTA was on the go again with EACIIER APPREcard of CIATION WFEK Monday esery staff member receised an apple in appreciation and a corsage or boutonniere On I uesdas room parents spent an hour the classroom reading to students so teachers could enjoy a treat in the staff lounge along with a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of teaching' Wednesday The cinnamon morning the PTA sersed a continental breakft st to all staff Jackie Powell of the Utah State Office of Education visited our school to audit our “Utah Reads” programs Delta North has two such programs in operation a peer tutoring program we call “Buddy Reading” and a parent volunteer program known as “I Can Read " Mrs Powell was very pleased with her visit sometimes get discourand reported to the state “I enjoy cd my visit at Delta North any difference My visit to Delta North gave aged and wonder if what I'm doing makes ” me the lift needed Thanks so much There are many people at DNLS who help make our tutonig programs a success Marie Bamson coordinates our Buddy Reading program Mary Preston along with Valene Hams and Patty Baldin have coordinated our “I Can Read” program this year Diane George and Carol Nielson have pros ided training enjoy and leant lots of ill important things that w help them live healthier lives Each class was scheduled to attend all of the different stations at the Health Fair The station on Nutrition was headed by Jean Crafts from the District office and she was assisted by Lou Jean tales Lou Jean has helped Jean for over 10 years at this They talked to students about the importance of good in their presented a musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island” to students and parents on Tuesday and Wednesday April 4 and 5 2000 Our three performances were very well receised by everyone in attendance Utah State Office of Education Reading Specialist Jackie Powell commented “I have never seen a better more professional performance by such young people Let me know when next year's performance is and I will schedule my visit to your school at that time'” This year’s cast ol JO students worked diligently memorizing their many lines songs and dances Their artistic
