Kanosh Freedom recently completed a and Leadership Youth Conference at Valley Forge Platt a student at Millard High School was one of 120 students to participate in the conference which was sponsored by he Utah chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge The Students traveled to Freedoms Foundation's historic campus in Valley Forge to participate in the ev ent which included classroom instruction ing history presentations and Freedom Summit where students debated issues that affect their learning environments before drafting a code of conduct to dress those issues Internet when he needs a guiderunner Tor a while his brother Dennis would run with him and then other coaches tixk on the job as Blame began to do better recently F d yestone who has Fieen on two Olympic teams and several orld squads had kindly given his time to help Blame in his running competitions Blaine needed a guide whom he couldn't out run Blaine will he competing w ith CD as his guide runner at Brigham Young University this weekend ith other L’SAB A runners Blaine knows braille he's not Although too interested in all the other things the hlind use to get around For example he has a cane somewhere in his house When asked where it was Blaine said he thinks his brother’s used it for a sw ord fight and broke it He didn't ike using it because it drew people’s attention to him and they would ask him if he needed help Blaine likes to be independent Blaine has accomplished a lot in his shortlife He has worthy goals he would like to go on an DS mission someday for his church He also has the Paralympics to work toward He is the United Stales hopeful and is try ing to shave off20 seconds from his time to qualify Blaine is humble and kind I f is family is all very proud of him and everyone wishes him the best Blaine is living a life for all to admire Many of us take for granted the things we have and when we see others overcoming their individual handicaps like Blaine we have wanted to participate in Fillmore's competition because of his mother lammy Turner Shelton went to Millard High School ard his grandmother lives in illmore Blame is the grandson of Donald C T umer and llaVec umer of! illmore Running blind has been a way of life for Blaine Shelton for 13 years Blaine was bom a normal healthy child but at the age of 22 months a few turned into meningitis le was taken to the emergency room as his temperature soared of 107 degrees and he went into a cardiac arrest he sickness took his sight and Blaine had lo relearn many things Many trials followed hut nothing seemed to stop Blaine from having fun lie wanted to he just like the other kids He was always out with the neighborhood joining in their various games lie even took to riding a hike he fell hut he always got hack up Blaine continued to grow in a w orld of shadows He became very independent At the age of 7 he completed in the Braille Institute Optimist Olympics in Ios Angeles where he started
