She answered “We made a lot of our own entertainment really TV in those days had a snowy reception I babysat a lot rode horses and went to the school dances which happened more often than those of today Wc would ice skate on an old frozen canal and have a large bonfire to get warm by In the summer we played softball My sister Jeanie and I sang everywhere In fact I won a talent contest at the age of eight at the State Fair Elementary school for Lucy Joan Eyre was somewhat different compared to our area schools They had no school lunch walked home each day for that and each class contained two grade levels “Wc had about twelve students for each grade so w ith both grades our class size was close to what they are nowadays If you chewed gum you stood in front of the class with a potato in your mouth" Of course Joan was asked how she met President Myers since everyone knows he grew up in Minersville as well “I lived about two blocks from him while growing up We met when I was in first grade and he was in second” In the ninth grade they rode the bus 8 miles to Beaver everyday and got to know each other quite well After they were married they lived three years in CedarCity and one in Logan so that he could attend school Then for two years he taught English and was the assistant coach in Milford Since that time they have sided in Delta They have four sons and two daughters oh and six grandkids “Joan makes afghans feeds the missionaries supports her husband in all of his duties and is a good grandmother” Susan Stcfanoff and Jane Gould ing add After growing up as second to the oldest in a family of five girls and one boy finding that she really enjoyed Biology and Reading and always exhibits a beautiful smile it certainly is a privilege to find her working with students at DSE Joan we appreciate your radiance and vitality and hope you stay with us for years to come We lAiWIIIOT AH Grumpy Cooking and cleaning daily is an occupation many women would love to walk away from but at Delta South Elementary we have five super ladies who excel with these chores With a combined total of 505 years of cooking lunches for school children these ladies find their greatest challenges are fixing things they know everyone will enjoy (not any different than at home!) This year they have the added task of preparing breakfast meals an average of 70 a day on top of the lunch preparation with no added time to their work day “Then we see the kids just throw a lot of it away which is disappointing” says Juvene Porter the Lunchroom Supervisor Daily they fix an average of 440 delicious lunches The faculty agree that the meals are excellent and easy to gain weight on The cheerful faces of the lunch crew makes visiting the lunchroom an enjoyable experience It was great to receive praise from the SUU student teacher who visits DSE each year for a week But one reward comes when the ladies are out in the public “Mom look there is my lunch lady a kid will say in the grocery store It makes me feel great!” said Lana Meinhardt your legal representative It's Why America Returns 58 West Main Delta 10:00 PM 4 Saturday by appointment only quilt tie Beeing of Service Delta North Fifth graders have lied a colorful crib sized baby quilt and w ould like to sell tickets for a random drawing opportunity Tickets will cost 5100 for each chance or $500 for six chances to w in the beautiful quilt Money raised w ill go low ard ictims through the Utah Chapter of the benefit of January's California Earthquake the American Red Cross Tickets will be sold during lunch recess from now until Student conferences Delta North would March 18 and also during like to thank the following businesses for their donations making this Beeing of Service project possible: Mom’s Crafts The Millard County Chronicle Progress and Christensen's Department Store A pot of yoCd is worth weelby reading no more tfuin the vaTues you wifi discover every every wee! g ADVERTISING PAYS -- YOU! ad of the ads in this paper |
