Show Millard County Chronicle Progress 1992 Pane May 21 11 Delta North Elementary In The News DNES Annual Awards Assembly Thursday May 14 1992 was a special day in the lives of many DNES students Our annual awards assembly was held that evening w uh over 850 aw ards being given to students for their many outstanding accomplishments throughout the school year The ev ening began w ah the PT A’s installation of officers for the 993 school year Current PTA President JoAnn Campbell conducted the meeting and look an opportunity to thank her Board for the exceptional amount of work they have the school year PTA President Elect Lorelei accomplished throughout Draper was then g ven a chance to introduce next years board follow mg their sw canng in ceremony Webelos Pack 148 was on hand for the flag ceremony Dave Noah offered the invocation and Kamill Corey’s singing group of Mallory Bishop Karen Ekins Rachel Rawlmson Jodi Lake and Lolhc Stoddard provided musical entertainment from the hit show “Annie” Awards were presented in the following categories: Water Education poster contest Hall of Fame champions from Hopscotch Hula Heap Airplanes Checkers Marbles Spelling Bees Jump Rope Scholar Bowl Poetry and Story telling “Robin Hood" (school play) 4th grade Regional Uuh History Fair4di grade Deseret News Spelling Bee KTV'S“4 Kid’s Sake” Christmas card contest Perfect Attendance Na Uonal Physical Fitness Awards Presidential Physical Fitness Awards and Presidential Academic Fitness Awards Special recognition in the form of "the Wilbur A ward” (named in honor of Wilbur Wnght) was given to school volunteer Amy Wright In her presentation 2nd grade teacher Dclna Bliss recognized Mrs Wnght for her outstanding voluntary efforts on behalf of our school Y ou can see Mrs W nght in the halls of DN ES almost every day she docs it completely on her own! We're helping make our school a belter glad she's a part of our school The hour long assembly w as enjoyed by a standing room only crowd It is so fun to watch the student’s faces light up as their names are called to come forward to receive special recognition It is an evening long remembered by all! Kirby K-- 2 Petersen talks to DNES youngsters about his animals students enjoy FFA petting zoo Monday May It 1992 was a special day for Delta North Busy Bees enrolled in Kindergarten through Second Grade Not only were they able to miss some of our Spring Festival practice they were treated to a special DHS FFA petting zoo at the Millard County Fair Complex We sincerely appreciate the many efforts FFA advisor Duane Ekins and his students put forth on our behalf that day There were sheep pigs cows horses chickens ducks geese etc for the students to observe Some even had an opportunity w to atch as the high school students milked cow s groomed sheep and herded geese! A special feature of the day was the horse ndc! You’d be surprised at how many city numbers who had never ndden a e have at Della North Elcmentary-tslickers horse astounded us! Thanks again Mr Ekins and the DHS Chapter of Future Farmers of America for grand day at the fair building! Bottom row left to right Jett David Aaron Bell Ben Willoughby Danny Myers R L Robinson Top row left to nght Dan Dewsnup Kandi Calhsier Angehta Lazano Brianna Manning DSE Mountain Man Rendezvous All of the fourth grade students who completed the requirements for their I’tah History class attended the Mountain Man Rendezvous this past Tuesday Everyone dressed up as an Indian or a Mountain Man (or koman) and came prepared to make an exciting day of it The highlight of the day was a visit from Mr Rex "Max Max" Stan worth He told of the adventures he’s had as a mountain mdudrg how he got his limp and lost ore of his eyes He showed us his guns mountain man paraphernalia and even let us The story of his knives was particularly interesting sample some of his food (y urn It was made from General Custer’s shinbone and he w as forced to trace bis ife his dog and ten bcer pelts for it He says he real’s misses his dog and did a great Eight Indian dancers from the high school performed four dances were over all the job (especially on the feather dance) After the stones and dances fourth graders participated in punch guzzling arm wrestling kg wrestling buffalo used chewing chip throwing 3 leg races dart throws and chewing contests They contest 33c re not gum of course Rick Dulson as the proud w inner of the pic ca’ing sure exactly how much he DID eat but he w as sick for the next two days Reed Ludwig directs a of Fort Deseret Mrs Terry fun poneergame called Sow’ “Old in front Finlmson and Becky Bunker display winning poster Former DNES student receives recognition DNES Salutes 4th Grade Scholars One of the highlights of this year’s annual awards assembly was presentation of the Presidential Academic Fitness Awards to a group of outstanding 4th grade students by their teachers Earl Amoldson Terry Finlmson and Nola Kapler This or above the prestigious award is a difficult one to accomplish Students must be at 80ih percentile on a standardized test (m our case the SAT which is administered all areas in the Fall is the test utilized) They must also have a B or 859F average in of the curriculum in the 4th grade through the first three terms Now that s Quite an accomplishment if you ask us! 23 students qualified for this recognition this year They are: Jessica Draper Judd Fitzgerald Ryan Rapplcve Lcsli Webb Laurel Jones Chcnse Lang Quinn Bishop Callie Hansen Heather Walker Rebecca Jacobsen Ginger Teeples Wesley Abbot Julie Judd Tiffany Nielsen Rebecca McCollaum Jesse Pashia Daniel Pittman Luarcn Nielson Jamie Chnstenscn Joshua Larsen Chad Stew art Tiffany Taylor and Debra Anderson We commend these students for their excellent work at Delta North School at these past 5 years and wish them much success as they enter Delta Middle the 5th grade level V?
