Program Over 45 people students and adults attended the LectureDiscussion on the Civil War given by Dr Wayne Hinton history professor at S USC sponsored by the Fillmore library and the Utah Endowment of Humanities Dr Hinton showed the film clip “Shiloh” Jewish word meaning Peace from the PBS series the “Civil W“He explained how this event was representative of the early battles of the war An extensive question and answer period followed Dr Hinton aided his discussion with the reading of Sullivan Balou's farewell letter to his wife Then the audience was invited to view CoL Sam Star ley's artifacts from the Civil War which included: spurs sabers a rifle bridles and buttons Mr Frank Thomas' original lithographs of the American Cavalry were on display and will be for the month of October It was a stimulating event if you weren’t there you missed something special! These were typical questions tossed around at the reunion of the local Battery H 222nd Field Artillery Regiment held on Saturday October 6 at the American Legion Hall Old familiar names were repeated and matched with faces now not so familiar Also recalled were oiha old names whose faces were not present From the many divagent travels and common types of military experience the reminiscences and stories rolled forth The conversation groups of man traded war stories and jokes as the women exchanged their conversational fare It was clear that many great changes in individual lives had taken place and recalling togetha this common experience was enriching Pahaps also the food and the results of good devoted organizing caused some to exclaim how great it was and say “We should do this again" Eugene Crabtree 80th birthday Eugene Crabtree celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends 8 There will be a special family dinna held in his honor next week Eugene is the oldest son of Albert and Maude E C raberee He spent many of his early years in Kanosh Utah whae he met and married Maxine B of Meadow Uuh They moved to Salt Lake City in 1937 They have three children and are the proud grandparents of seventeoi Eugene stays very active He enjoys his family friends and his church activities He also enjoys various hobbies and working in his yard He and his wife reside in their home at 636 South 6th East Salt Lake City |
