Show Page 8 Millard County Chronicle Progress June 21 1990 Honors academy selections Diane Hales of Delia and Easton Jackson and Jared Whaicou of Millard High were among 50 students from 39 Utah high schools who have been accepted to participate in the 1990 Governor's Honors Academy to be held on the campus of Southern Utah Slate The students who will all be junior or seniors this coming school year will attend specially designed courses during the July academy “Each student was selected because he or she has demonstrated excellence and through academics leadership community service" Lillie Garrick) academy acting director explains “The academy is intended for Utah's finest high school students" Those selected to participate will be provided a curriculum to introduce various career options and to allow opportunities to create and implement ideas an objectives in a large number of areas The academy is by Utah Governor Norman H Bangerter and Southern Utah State A major goal of the academy is to broaden the perspectives of outstanding high school students “The academy recognizes the quality an caliber of Utah’s most valuable source its students" Garrido says “Throughout the intensive program the students will participate in a positive personal an intellectual program” A number of SUSC faculty members will join several distinguished outside lecturers during the special Over The A family reunion was held June 9 at the Pleasant Grove home of Ovid and Venice Jeppson Those attending were Angie Green Layne Bottomfield Millie Pace and Jacqueline Hunsaker The reunion was few days visit The done's were speakers for Sunday Sacrament meeting in their ward and Mary Lynn presented the Homemaking lesson on Tuesday evening A very informative demonstration on breadmaking and use of grains followed Gwen returned home on Wednesday David and Cathy Rowley of Sandy with daughter Cassie spent Father’s Day weekend with parents Ray and Gwen Rowley Coming from Klamouth Falls OR cm June 8 to visit Max on Thom ton and other members of their family were Maxon's daughter Bonnie her husband Scott Teeples and their children Carrie Patsy Robin Mathew and Michael Their oldest son Ronald is in Hawaii picking pineapple for the LDS Church While they were at the home of Maxon Thornton for the first 5 days of their vacation they visited Scott’s grandmother Lucille Ricker in Fillmore and his parents Pat and Lloyd Teeples in Delta Maxon and the Teeples family went to Delta where they enjoyed dinner at the home of Pat and Gil Trujillo Also attending the dinner were Pat’s sister stead her husband and their Nancy two children her sister Chrisie Carling and brother Ray and his wife Donna Gilson Gil prepared a gourmet meal for the family using his newly acquired cooking skills Pat and Gil will also host a family reunion to be held in Delta Sat June 16 Clara Mae and Clyde Shaver have come to Fillmore from Las Vegas N V to spend the summer with Clara Mae’s mother Lucille Ricker Topaz Rocky Ridge doggers Mtn Hills doggers f flowell Mrs Kent Swallow and family were in Orem Fri June 8 to attend the commencement at UVCC Their daughter and sister Shcrlyn was a member of the graduates After a couple of weeks here with her family she will return to UVCC and continue her training for a RN degree Best wishes Shcrlyn Lynn Allen and some of her children were in Orem last week Her daughter Ann Marie visited UVCC She is planning to attend UVCC when classes start later Donna Crapo and daughter Jayci and Gail Robison and daughters Kathy and Jancan drove to Greschem Wisconsin to attend funeral services for the ladies mother to their mother grandmother Evelyn Bohls of Greshem They visited many relatives and friends Gresham is Gail and Donna’s former home Don and Ilena Tomkinson went to Delta to attend Sacrament Meeting to hear her parents Philip and Thelma Burnham report their mission to Fiji The Burnham’s daughter Cindy Finlinson and husband live in Delta The were invited to sing a duet Mrs Acel (Vickie) Butcher and children came Fri June 8 to spend a few days with her parents Dean and Shiiley Allen Vickie and children returned to their West Valley home Monday June 12 They spent time with Uncle Rex and Aunt Lynn and children and grandmother Ruth Allen John Jackson of Mapleton came to visit his brother Darrel Jackson and their mother Noma Jackson and niece Alicia B undy Also visiting at the Jackson home June 9 was a friend of Darrels Frank Cooper and his wife of Las Vegas Mr Cooper and Darrel are very close friends Heather and Tiffany Astle of Murray are spending a vacation with grandparents Arthur and Beth Allen They are having a great time with their Christensen cousins They will visit their Allen cousins children of Uncle avid and Aunt Vickie and Aunt Louise and Uncle Jerry Imlay and children in Fillmore The Astle girls' parents are Cindy and Paul Astle Swazey Peak Express Rocky Mountain Cloggers The Rocky Mountain Cloggers under the direction of Jill Carroll an Assistant Cindy Shepherd competed in the Rocky Mountain clogging championship at Lagoon Seven teams attended the competition and came home with top honors Topaz Mm Cloggers brought home a first place trophy with a show dance to “How Do" and a second place trophy for the dance "Dcctric Youth" Swazey Peak Express took a second place in the intermediate division with their precision dance “Soldier of Love" Rocky Ridge Cloggers took a fust place with a Michael Jackson tune "Smooth Criminal" Cricket Mountain Clog gers took a second place with “Straight Up" and Sugarloaf Mountain Express took a third place with a show dance to “You’re So Sweet" Knotch Peak Cloggers brought home a first place trophy in novice division with a traditional dance to “San Antonio
