Show Page 14 Millard Countv Chronicle Progress May 1990 24 Dr Donald B Olsen has been lected to be the Master of Ceremonies at the first annual Gunnison Valley High School Alumni reunion and banquet on May 26 A 1948 graduate of Gunnison Valley High School Dr Olsen is a Professor of Surgery Research Professor of Pharmaceutics and Research Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Utah He is best known for his extensive work in heart research which eventually culminated in his assisting Dr William DeVries and Dr Lyle Joyce in the momentous surgery in December 1982 in the implantation of the artificial heart in Dr Barney Clark Additionally the majority of surgical teams in the world who implant artificial hearts were trained by Dr Olsen and his research team at the Artificial Heart Research Laboratory in Salt Lake City His extremely active and varied reer includes lecturing and conducting seminars and demonstrating implantation techniques internationally including a six weeks lecture tourof Germany Austria France and Italy He has also authored or over 30 papers and chapters in books with 30 awaiting publication Dr Olsen received his BS degree at Utah State University an his doctorate at Colorado State University He has also studied at the University of Nevada and the University of Colorado He is a native of Axtell Utah and upon being invited to be the Master of Ceremonies expressed pleasure at the opportunity to return home to visit with former classmates faculty and old friends Reunion activities will begin with a social hour at 6 pm an dinner and program at 7 o’clock according to Phyllis Greener director of the organization The most expensive wallet ever made is a crocodile created by Louis Quatorze of Paris and Mikimoto Tokyo It sold for $72000 A HAIL STORM CAN STRIKE ANYTIME -- ANYPLACE!!!
