Fillmore community band to be formed A community band is in the making in Fillmore For almost a year a group of band lovers have been trying to get enough music people together to form a band but many have been reluctant because of the years of inactivity from playing Mr Crowe Millard High School music director has been a busy man getting the high school band organized and playing Now he can devote some of his time to a community band and is very enthusiastic about it and so are the people that are signed up The first meeting is scheduled for Monday June 4 at 7:30 pm in the high school Anyone else interested come with your instruments and kits of enthusiasm This promises to be something special for adults and students and a great opportunity for a wonderful community project Don’t let the fact that you haven’t played for year keep you away Just come and try and it will all come back to you very soon To Last” time offer Offer valid through participating Night dealers Call for details Limited only Day Model Ask & 3988 Fillmore Weed Control Day Over 200 people participated in the second annual Weed Day making the event a very successful effort The event is a coordinated effort to control Scotch Thistle on lands in the Cove Fort area The various agencies and land owners work on their own lands to prevent the infestation of thistle from spreading Volunteer help from the schools in Fillmore along with Boy Scouts and interested groups make the job much easier Last year 143 people participated Help from the schools in Fillmore included several Sterling Scholars FFA students and many interested students Overall there were 69 students participate which speaks well of the school system in Fillmore Young and old participated as well as those that lived close and a long ways off One private land owner traveled from the Barstow California area and was one of the oldest participants at 78 years old!
