With three homicide trials added to an already heavy workload Millard County Attorney Warren Peterson several months apago got County Commission proval to hire an additional temporary deputy to help Patricia Geary started work in in the Delta office of the County Attorney “I was hired mainly to pick up the backlog that (Peterson) won’t have the time to get to during those cases" she said “I’ll be involved somewhat in the homicide cases but not the meat of it" Geary graduated from the University of Utah law school in 1987 with a 89 GPA Her experience includes serving as judicial clerk for Judge Gregory Orme Court of Appeals in Salt Lake City “In the profession it’s considered a prestigious thing to do" she said Betwdbn her clerkship with followed which Judge Orme graduation and comingto Millard County she worked in several legal capacities Those jobs were deliberately temporary “I was waiting for the right offer to come along" Geary said That offer came from here “It sounded like exactly the kind of job I was interested in” she said “because a lot of it is local government representation municipal and county government which is something that I’m interested in “And when I saw that it included both county civil representation and some prosecution" she said both “since I have a background I thought it w'as perfect" in Her first oral presentation in a trial came in 4th District Court in Provo on Monday Sept il Geary argued the Millard County position in opposition to a request by media lawyers to lift a court order sealing documents relating to two homicide cases The court has yet to rule on that case “It wasn’t any big secret that I don’t have a lot of trial experience” she said But Geary has an extensive background in a lot of areas and strong analytical and writing skills that make up for the lack of trial experience Her talents will be added to Petersons courtroom skills “I think the combination is great" “It’s an excellent Geary said working combination because he’s very good in court and very articulate" Geary chose a career in law “purely for the intellectual pursuit" She is philosophical about law “Law is everywhere It gets at the core of people" Why Millard County? “To be honest my first reason is the job" Geary said “But also I have lived in small towns all my life with the exception of the last year in Salt Lake City IjuBt really did not like the lifestyle there I was looking for a quieter Btyle And this definitely is it" Her long range future is open “Right now I have a big task in front of me" she said Implementation of the
