Show Page 4 - Millard County s Thurs August USPS 4 198 Delta church hosts Presbytery of Utah by Dawn Carder For the first time in nearly thirty the Delta Community years Presbyterian Church was host for the of Utah The special Presbytery meeting was held on Saturday July 30 1988 from 11:30 am until shortly after 3 pm The Presbytery of Utah is a part of the Synod of the Rocky Mountains The Presbytery is the governing body for all Presbyterian churches in Utah It is comprised of a minister and an elder from each of the Presbyterian churches in the state Approximately 55 people attended Saturday’s meeting The Rev Warren T Fikejs pastor of the Delta church the opened meeting with a worship service in the church sanctuary His message entitled “Paul fires ’em up” was a call for Christian unity A special musical selection was given by Glenda Otto and Karen Harker Immediately following the service the group assembled for lunch The meal was prepared and catered by Chef’s Palace too The Rev James Lappen of Salt Lake for the City served as Moderator special meetings Reports were given by and tha the Clerk the Treasurer Of special nominating committee terest were the reports of the three Utah delegates to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of America held recently in St Louis Missouri Tim Kim a member of the Korean Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City was both Historical Society receives documents by Charlotte Morrison At a recent meeting of the Board of Trustees of the West Millard Historical Society President Dorothy Killpack announced the receipt of two sets of material for the society’s archives Received from Marjorie Ashby Shane early North Tract resident was one of the original promotion books titled West Millard County in published 1923 This booklet touted the wonders of farming in the West Millard area with pictures and testimonials of many of the farmers The book had originally belonged to Mrs Shane’s parents who came to the area in 1918 Pictures of early settlers are widely used in the booklet and grandparents and great of many area residents grandparents are represented in the publication Also in the Shane gift was a 1921 Millard Mrs Shane asked County Chronicle specifically that this rare book and newspaper be in the hands of the Historical Society and she is duly recorded as the donor Another collection of articles on earmedical in West ly professionals Millard was presented to the society by Dr Melvin Lyman He had received the collection from Mrs Virgie Murray daughter of Biah Sjostrom a nurse in the area museum building can be obtained An accession register for gifts has been started to record collections as they are received All material received will be available to people interested in seeing it by City served as the Moderator redevelopment of church congregations around the world educating God’s people for ministry doing justice and undergirding compassion sharing global mission the During the entire afternoon volvement of Utah’s Presbyterians in world issues and the work of Jesus Christ was evident An example of commitment was exhibited in the report of the Peacemaking Committee Committee members are actively working towards peace through education on state national and international levels Symposiums are being sponsored and facts are being distributed photographs Approximately 80 photos were copied by Jane Beckwith for the Commission before she left for her year in Japan Another activity carried on for the Council was the recording of terviews with long time area residents Funds for the projects came from a serCLG grant with matching vices contributed by Delta City and volunteer work by commission for received members Grant money the first year’s projects was $1000 is Chair of the Delta Commission Dorothy Killpack with Commission members appointed by the City June Reid Louise Lyman and Charlotte Morrison Commission projects for the new period are a grant for the survey of the old Sugar Factory Row neighborhood and the factory site itself tending Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary beginning 1988 September The minister and members of the Delta Community Presbyterian Church were thanked and commended for their perseverance and commitment over the years The local church will observe the 60th Anniversary of the building’s dedication and the 75th year of continuous permanent Presbyterian work in this area on Sunday August 28 Water rationing in Oak City Historic Preservation Council to meet August 4 Preservation The Delta Historic Council will hold a meeting Thursday August 4 in the Delta City Council Chambers at 7:00 pm During the past comyear several projects have been Two local pleted by the Commission buildings the Rigby house at hours of 11 am until 4 pm on any day These hours may later be adjusted if necessary Watering violations will be policed by the Town Board Penalties will be imposed if necessary Also a public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 pm Thursday August 18 at the Ward Cultural Hall in conjunction with regular town board meeting to receive input as to whether the town board should purchase underground water
