Hinckley LDS Church building at 7:30 pm on Thursday is welcome Everyone May 12 Speakers will be David and Linda Ekins In 1876 Hinckley first became a town The first school was established in 1889 in the Benjamin Scott house located a mile south of the elementary school Early teachers were Mary Bishop (Webb) who lived with the Petersons in their dugout during that winter Frank Webb Minine Bishop Moody Milton Moody and Sophia Peterson Burke In 1893 the neat brick building was built just north of the Kay Webb home Later about 1908 the brick elementary school was built for approximately $20000 This building was used until the early 1970s All who are interested in Hinckley are welcome to attend the meeting Those folks new to the Hinckley area are especially invited to learn of its beginnings Rodney Wright local Hinckley historian will be presenting the program Ruth Rawlmson of the West Millard History book will be on hand with a sample book and to answer questions on submitting articles to the book about families Spring meeting of Shared Ministry scheduled The annual spring meeting of Shared Ministry in Utah will be held at the 203 First United Methodist Church South 200 East in Salt Lake City on Saturday May 14 The Delta Comis a Church munity Presbyterian member of Shared Ministry The Rev Dr Douglas Alan Kelly new interim executive secretary of Shared Ministry in Utah and interim of the Utah executive presbyter Presbytery Presbyterian Church (USA) will be introduced to delegates at the meeting The opening worship service will be conducted by Rev Dale McArthur host pastor at 9:00 am Rev Richard Reese Ogden First Baptist Church and chairperson of the ecutive council of Shared Ministry will introduce Dr Kelly Dr Kelly will address the delegates on the present transition period and future of Shared In addition to Dr Kelly’s Ministry presentation Shared Ministry commit tees will report at the business meeting from 10:15 to 12 noon lunch some of the Following Utah President Department Marianne Jensen of Salt Lake City President Marianne introduced the officers of the Dept of Utah Commander of Salina Post introduced his officer then introduced District Six Commander Ted Nielson Ted troduced his officers and Department Coiimander Elmer Pickett of St George He introduced the Dept He gave an interesting talk and told that we are finally going to have memorial park for the burial of Veterans in Utah A ground breaking ceremony will be held on June 4 at Camp Williams All are invited to it Also that department convention will be held in Salt Lake City at the Motel on June 24 25 and 26 Legion and Auxiliary separated and each had their reports and election of officers Those elected were: Ella Dee Pres Shirley Lambertson Sorenson 1st Beverly Lowe 2nd Leona Riding Chaplin Mary Blain asks that all units bring their colors and stands to department convention and color bearers to dress in white to present the colors Pres Marianne said how proud she was deferred until the ownership transfer is completed A review of new court procedures was given by Stanley K Robison City Justice of Peace Judge Robison was particularly pleased that the courts in a and carried It is hoped that the fence will act as a deterrent for youngsters who are attracted to the canal and who may become drowning victims Mayor Ruth Hansen led a discussion on the possible location of a Desert Research Institute Radiation Monitor The preferred site of the institute is the concrete slab in the southwest corner of the Main Street Park Council did not concur on this site and another will be sought by Sarah Inez Moody have submitted City departments their budgets for Fiscal Year and a tentative budget has been drawn up It was adopted Monday night upon Gayle a motion by Councilman seconded Bunker by Councilman David Church and carrying Of the 23 departments only seven have requested increases These creases range from $110 by the City Recorder to $26886 by the Streets and Highways Departments Council members will meet in a work session to refine the tentative budget in preparation of a final budget A copy of the tentative budget is on file at the city offices for public inspection Upon a motion by Councilman Don Dafoe and seconded by Councilman David Church a Public Hearing on the budget will be held Monday May 23 1988 6:30 pm Action on the budget will then follow at the council’s regular meeting the same evening Steve Lester appeared before Council to discuss possible uses of a building at the Delta Municipal Airport At present ownership of the building is being transferred from FAA to the city Mr Lester proposes to use the building as a flight instruction classroom and as a meeting place for a flight club Consensus of council was positive as long as
