Show 'T' t : Millard Tburs L'SPS County Nov 12 1987 - Page 7 Impresssions of newspaper office from “A few good students” Audrey Hagen Arts in Education flourish with Audrey Hagen Delta North Elementary is happy to welcome Mrs Audrey Hagen aboard our staff for the next two weeks Mrs Hagen is an artist who works in conjunction with the Utah Arts Council in the Arts in Education program We feel honored to have her working with our studentbody Mrs Hagen is a member of the Utah Puppetry Guild and the Puppeteers of America She has been educated at the University of Utah and has studied puppetry at the 1985 International Puppet Festival held at Claremont College in California Audrey has been working with the Utah Arts Council teaching and presenting programs in puppetry in Utah schools since 1980 In addition to her work with Kindergarten through Junior High she has taught puppetry through institutions such as the Great Salt Lake Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Utah Committee: Arts for the In 1985 she was includHandicapped ed in the artist bank of the educational equity department of the state office of education All 404 of our Delta North students will be privileged to work with Mrs Hagen Students will gain confidence and personal satisfaction from the program Audrey has developed Along with her able husband Mrs Hagen will teach and help every student make a puppet She will help students bring their puppets to life by preparing a program which will include music and dialogue She will be presenting a program to the November 12 public on Thursday 1987 at 6:00 pm in the Delta North Auditorium AH students in grades will have a part in this special performance Due to limited seating we ask that ONLY the parents of performers attend This program will be shared with our studentbody on Friday morning (the 13th) at 8:30 am The teachers completed two hours of inservice with Mrs Hagen early in the residency The ideas and thusiasm Mrs Hagen radiates are catchy! We appreciate very much the opportunity of having her in our schools The arts residency is sponsored in part by the Delta North Elementary PTA the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts This is the third year that Delta North Elementary has been chosen to participate in this worthwhile program' Delta North salutes Nancy Shaw Delta North Elementary is proud to salute Miss Nancy Shaw our hearing impaired teacher This is Miss Shaw’s first year of teaching in Utah but she has a total of 10 years experience in working in deaf education Miss Shaw was born in Chickasha Oklahoma She has one brother She graduated from Ninnekah High School in Oklahoma and has attended Rick’s College in Idaho BYU in Provo Utah and Texas Women’s College Miss Shaw has kept busy during her liftime She has worked in day care centers and at the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf in Oklahoma In her spare time Nancy enjoys reading music and painting From her own elementary years Miss Shaw remembers one Christmas when the class made Christmas trees out of plastic bags and chicken wire Miss Shaw is enjoying her time in Delta thus far She is a delight to be around and we hope that she will be with us for many more years to come L TO R: Angie Callister Kristi Crapo Jaylene Warnick middle row Bobbi Porter Jena Edwards Teresa Nickle Jill Jackson front row Sandy Petersen Portia Clayton Valerie Ekins Stacie Babb and Kris Dafoe Academic All-Stat- er entertains DNES Studentbody was inv ited to join in on several of the numbers It was not only an entertaining situation but a learning one as well We commend our studentbody for their excellent behavior during the performance The instructor of the group mentioned that she had seldom witnessed such an attentive and cooperative audience Each class present earned 25 nifty notes for their nifty behavior We thank the West Millard Cultural Council for allow ing us this special opportunity to observe the arts in action sale Deanna Davis said she was just happy to be there! She liked the smell and how nice everyone was to us! Informing the people of Millard County of events and happening that you can’t get on TV and radio is the number one responsiblity of a local newspaper says Troy Peterson Marcos Lazaro thanked Mrs Dutson for the articles in the newspaper about ALC and thought Dawn Carder’s article about the accreditation team evaluating DHS was very good Those also discovering the working of a newspaper were Mrs Carol Spor Mrs Camille Riding and Mrs Sarah Jo Louder We all wish to thank the staff for taking their time to show us through the newspaper CBS announces events Shelley Fowles daughter of Mr and Mrs Leroy Gus Fowles and a senior on the volleyball team at Delta High School was selected as an Academic volleyball player at the 2A girls volleyball state championship game held Oct 3 Shelley along with about ten other girls from 2A high schools throughout Utah was awarded with a plaque and acknowledged as outstanding in her academic skills as well as her athletic ability Shelley applied for this award by sending her cumulative GPA of 39 and a list of her school and community volvement to the head of the Academic committee in early October With Shelley’s busy volleyball schedule including practices everyday after school until 5 pm she managed to hold down a part time job and take the time to keep her grades “above Thurs Nov Conferences Thurs Nov at Emery Tues Nov Pineview at Delta Tues Nov So Sevier at Delta Wed Nov Milford at Delta Nov Thurs Sun Vacation Fri Sat Nov Tournament at Juab The Citizens for Better Schools have announced a calendar of events for the month of November It is as follows: Fri Sat Nov tournament Wasatch 18— Honor Wed Nov Society Assembly Wed Nov Sterling Scholar Assembly Wed Sat Nov and “Annie” Cabinetmaking class The evening cabinetmaking class will start on Wed Nov 11 at 7 pm at the Vocational Center If you have any question concerning call this class please average” Shelley a senior has played on the DHS varsity girls volleyball team for two years one of which Delta took the State Championship title The Future Business Leaders of America is a group at DHS that Shelley is involved in She qualified to compete at State FBLA competition last year and got a third and fourth place in various secretarial skills and placed first in State on a team of Delta students Shelley is on the honor society at DHS and has been on the high honor roll every term of her high school years with the exception of her outstanding three terms of a 40 GPA She is also involved with the acappella and sang in the choir held this year in Salt Lake City Accounting secretarial procedures and data processing taught at the in Delta Tech occupy most of Shelley’s high school elective courses this year She enjoys these business classes and feels that she would like to Scholarship and Sterling Scholar Assembly Children’s Dance Theatre Friday November 6 1987 was deed a special day for Delta North Elementary At 2:00 pm we hosted a very special performance by the University of Utah Children’s Dance Theatre The company consisted of about 35 performers They performed earlier in the day at Delta South Elementary They also staged an evening performance for the community at Delta High School Our studentbody was very impressed with their dancing routines They were very well presented The audience Harvest Ball candidates TOP ROW by ALC students as told to Mrs Louder Troy Peterson and Desi Ervin were impressed by Mrs Dutson (and her faithful cat) and the superb way she has run the newspaper all these years The dark room did strange things to Mike Western He thought everyone looked weird in that light The $80 cost for the silver sheet surprised us all!
