into business rather than studying about it Following this decision he went to Utah Technical School in Provo to learn the construction trade After completing his studies at the trade tech Bruce did work in the field of building construction for a period of time Then when he was out of work he went to his friend Frazier Buck manager of Quality Ace Hardware and ws hired as a clerk That was twelve handle heavy loads without suffering severe damage The weight restriction has been placed on the highway to protect the pavement until the ground can dry out and regain stability wrestler Ricks at below average The is a mixed bag and central Utah water supply outlook as of Feb Millard County is no exception For example the Fillmore area is above average in runoff while Delta is below average according to the National administration Oceanic and Atmoshpheric On the high side a few stations on the crucial upper Sevier River basin have recorded seasonal precipitation of percent In contrast February 1st snowpack percentages were well below normal on the Upper Sevier: 58 percent and Lower Sevier: 52 percent Downstream points on the Sevier Rivr continued to record above average flows from 128 to 238 percent This is due mainly to above average seasonal runoff due to the influence of previous wet years in southern Utah Of particular importance is the continued above average reservoir storage Along the Sevier River the Piute Otter Creek and Sevier Bridge Reservoirs are at an average 93 percent of capacity and 171 percent of average up 16280 from last year at this time Volunteers advertising and the budget for the year and then consults with the owner of the corporation Once a week he attends a management meeting with Art Jeffery and the other managers Still he pretty much makes all the decisions for his establishment and is as he jokingly says responsible for making money Karen Curtis does all buying of clothing and toys and Bruce’s secretary does the book keeping Ordering is basically deligated to the clerks Each is responsible for one section as is Bruce and orders for that particular section All orders are then given to Bruce for final perusal and approval This is done every Thursday and the freight arrives each Saturday afternoon The present store is somewhat different than it was when Bruce first worked as a clerk Initially the hardware was in the back Ben Franklin Variety Store was in the front the fabric shop was where the clothes are now and the food was in the present office building In the past few years clothing and toys have been added to the bill of fare but other items have basically just been expanded Furniture and appliances as well as hardware have always been sold Approximately nine years ago Quality Hardware affiliated with Ace which is a national organization This connection offers buying power which results in better prices for customers Each year Ace holds two conventions in various parts of the country (The 1987 spring convention will be held in St Louis and Reno will be the host city in the fall) Karen and Bruce along with about 5000 other people attend the four day conventions where they become better informed on products available In the mornings corporate people speak at breakfast meetings Later everyone has the opportunity to visit the booths which are set up by difWares are ferent manufacturers specially priced and there Bruce says he and Karen do a great deal of buyof all hardware ing percent ordered comes from Ace The hardware section of Quality Ace is geared more for the “do it yourselfer” rather than for contractors Still there are contractors who deal with Bruce on a regular basis and special orders are made when needs arise And each department in the store runs specials EVERY month The slowdown at IPP and the staggering economy have definitely affected business The store originally open from 8 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday just recently changed the hours to 9 am to 6 pm Also Bruce has had to cut back from twelve full time employees to only five and he has experienced some difficulty trying to get the ordering technique back in line with the changes Along with the Bruce admits that there is changes in the hardware keen competition business in Delta For Bruce Curtis working for Qualiis very enty Market Corporation and joyable He has been he likes the challenges provided To him the business slow down has been a challenge for he must figure the best ways to reduce the inventory in order to get expenses in line with sales Bruce Along with the
