kindergarten Children ages 0 to 5 who have developmental delays or are handicapped are eligible for participation in the program according to Mrs Schoppe This special education preschool has a center located in Delta and one located in Nephi to meet the needs of children in Millard and Juab counties respectively “Children who are slower ha usual in coordination and speech are some of the ones we’re looking for” Mrs Schoppe said “because normally children should be walking by age two and talking by age 3" For most children there is not a cost connected with this daily preschool perience although some parents with above average incomes have been charged a small fee Individualized Program Plans are set up for each child to meet immediate goals along the way towards preparation of kindergarten Chris Schoppe commented "If patents are at all suspicious of their child’s development they should think about contacting us for further information and help It is best to discover a first visit which I I was pleased to made unannounced find that Elsie’s real talent goes beyond management right into the kitchen with thick creamy soups big juicy sandwiches and fries cut from whole potatoes “I started in this business when I was twelve and now I can cook anything” she said The Cheese Chalet derived its name from the fact that it was a cheese outlet for Delta Valley Farms and Elsie is conAlso she has tinuing that tradition already had several specialty nights where foods of various nationalities are featured Elsie is quick to thank all her friends and neighbors for supporting the new business venture In fact the response to her efforts have been so great she is already planning to knock out a wall and expand the dining area "The people here have been so great that I would really like to continue fixing the place up” she said “I think that in time we could make it bigger and with an even better menu and give people around here a really deluxe place to eat” Special friends she thanks for supporting her are Sam and Millie Roth Faye Synder and Sue Edison at the Paradise and Rex Williams and the guys that shovel the snow off her walks in the morning Perhaps the biggest thanks goes to Amelia Leavitt Elsie’s waitress and sood friend She is the After six years as manager Paradise Inn restaurant in Fillmore Elsie Rowland decided she needed a change of pace To the delight of folks around Meadow and Kanosh and truckers on she opted to buy the former Cheese Chalet next to Rex Williams’ Meadow Chevron and open Elsie’s Place with full restaurant services great homecooking and a feeling like “we’re glad you’re here” “I loved my years at the Paradise Inn Don Fullmer my boss taught me everything I know about managing a restaurant and he and Arnola made me feel like family” Elsie said “But a big restaurant like that is a lot of pressure and I was looking for a new challenge” Elsie didn’t go looking for a new restaurant but when she learned the Cheese Chalet was for sale she saw a chance to put a lifetime of restaurant experience to work for herself And so far it has been a lot of fun along with some hard work “The first thing we did was to make it less of a place and more of restaurant” Elsie said “And second we have worked on offering a variety of foods beyond the typical burger and fries routine” For a small place the menu is pleasingly varied with steaks seafood Mexican hot and cold sandwiches and soup and pies Superdome in New Orleans is the largest arena accommodate up to 95000 people It's the world's largest covers 13 acres and
