waiting for all year is almost here Halloween means costumes trick or treating and The bags of goodies to youngsters Utah Safety Council reminds parents that a few extra safety precautions can help insure that children have a and safe outing When designing or buying costumes tor children parents should follow these safety guidelines: material should Only be used Costumes should be large enough so warm clothes can be worn and to allow freedom of underneath movement They should not be so long r to cause a tripping hazard Outfits should be made of light colors and reflective tape can make children even more visible Consider using makeup rather than a mask so children’s vision will not be obstructed For youngsters under the age of 12 attach their name address and telephone number to their clothes Before children start out for the evening parents should make sure that: An adult will be supervising the trick or treating Children travel only in familiar areas and along an established route Pedestrian safety rules and have been reviewed such as crossing only at corners and obeying traffic signs and signals Children know to stop only at houses or apartment buildings that are well lit and never to enter a stranget’s home Each child has change for a phone call in case they have a problem while away from home A return time has been set Youngsters understand that they may
