Does it sound like advertisement for Soldier of Fortune Magazine a phrase clipped from a wondetful competitive game for Explorer and Varsity Scouts that covers a rough mile course? It was tough designed for this age Scouts by a Varsity Scout seven years ago This year it was held Sept 20 at the Pioneer Charcoal Burning Pits and finished at the DMAD Reservoir There were teams consisting from 6 to 8 boys and they came to the Della area from all over the Utah National Parks council 153 boys participated and 45 adults helped to supervise these boys The Varsity Scouts had four teams from Delta one from Oak Price and Manti Hinckley City Sptingville The teams and posts participated in these aetivites: running rappelling bicycling archcry rifle shooting crossing a comando line throwing tomahawks canoeing log sawing swimming fire building and crossing a stream on a log by Chris deHaan All teams survived this year’s Survival of the however one ittest unlucky team did lose their baton and was disqualified This year we saw a new twist with the entry of a Girls Explorer Post They were sponsored by the Springs ille Swimming Pool We enjoyed theii participation and hope they will be back next year The night before the survival of the fittest the Council wide Explorer planning conference was held at IPP Explorers were housed at the man camp and were given training participated in planning enjoyed the recreational facilities and were given a tour of the Power Plant new Intermountain In the Explorer Post dividion First place went to Delta 1st Ward 3rd place to Hinckley 2nd 6th place to Delta 6th Ward and 7th place to Oak City 1st Ward In the Varsity division 1st place went to Delta 8th Ward 2nd place to Oak City 1st Ward 4th place to Della 5th Ward 7th Scouts highest award Curtis Christensen son of Kevin and Marlene Christensen received his Arrow of Light Award in special Akela ceremony by Paul Christensen on September 25 1986 at the lowell Pack 208 meeting Chris deHaan son of Andy and Tammi deHaan received his Arrow of Light Award at the Kanosh Ward Pack 207 meeting on September 24 1986 It was presented to him in the unique Akela ceremony Blad by Sharon Cubmaster Nathanial Cox son of Paul and Nellie Cox was presented his Arrow of Light by Charles Ferguson Committee Chairman on September 30 1986 at the Fourth Ward Pack 209 meeting in an unusual ceremony with stepping stones leading to Blazer Patrol leader Darwin Day representing the advancement into the Scout troop where he the Scout teceived book and neckerchief Jeremy Whipple son of Dale and was awarded the Janette Whipple honored Faith in God Award by Bishop Duane Baugh at the Fourth Ward Pack 209 meeting on September He completed all the 30 1986 a talk on quirements Ward Sacrament meeting John Ford son of Joy Ford received his Faith in God Award on September 21 1986 by Bishop Lester Dobson at Sacrament meeting in Holden The faith in God Award is the religious Cub Scout award for boys registered in I DS sponsored Cub Scout packs They must be 9 years old and complete special requirements some of which are attendance at Primary and Sacrament meetings and Cub Scout meetings for at least 3 months preparing a pedigree chart give a talk in a meeting do good deeds etc It is a special honor for the boy to receive it At the Kanosh Ward Pack 207 meeting held Sept 24 1986 Colby Robinson received a special trophy for in Cub Achievement Outstanding Scouts for the last 3 yeats winning 1st place in the Pinewood Derby in the Kanosh Pack 207 and in the Millatd District also and 3rd place in the Utah National Parks Council this year on Aug 30 1986 He has completed all the required Cub Scout requirements and 36 Arrow Points this puts him high on the trail to being a top Boy Scout and we are proud of him and the effort he puts into it Other special recognition trophies were given to Ryan and Kyle Higgs and Samuel Adams for participation in the Physical
