It was a nice treat for us to have our “Boyd” grandchildren here for seven weeks this summer They had never seen mountains because back there they have hills covered with trees Kinder asked her mom if the mountains were real or just painted o s Derrick got to see a calf born That will make teresting conversation when the brag about their summer vacations Lieuwen look them down to our old house and introduced them to a ditch They had never heard of a ditch Then she let them dangle their feet and told them about the “olden" days when she used to swim in the ditch when the “water was in town” She loves everything about Hinckley every blade of grass the sunsets the weeds the more relaxed way of life compared to Washington DC Most of all she loved the people all those dear friends young and older who were part of her childhood Alta Shumway and Lula and Burton McKee spent Sunday afternoon at the home of Sharon and Sheldon Western We are happy to report that Lowell Petersen is home from the hospital He had a combination of ailments but is doing very well Here to visit him while he was ill were his daughters Mae Jean Damron and Edith Schlappi The Petersen’s grandson Russell Schlappi was married to Donna Grant in the Manti Temple last Saturday The wedding dinner was held at the Salt Lake International Airport dining room Lowell and Esther joined the family for the dinner and the wedding reception held that evening in Salt Lake Waldo Sr and Alla Warnick went on a tour of the Central Utah Water Project which included an overnight stay at a dude ranch They toured in drive vehicles and saw lots of beautiful scenery On Fri Sept 5 Marianne Ekins was married to DeVn Ekenstam in the Salt Saint Temple at Lake pm by Cline Smith Those attending the marriage from this area were Mrs Gene Ekins Mrs George Ekins Ben Ekins and Mrs David Ekins of Hinckley Mrs Ulala Mace of Flowell Mrs Mario Mace and Mrs Thoms Reeve Fillmore Mrs Keith Black and Mrs Frank Wilde of Orem The above group also attended an open house in Salt Lake Fri evening given by the groom’s mother Mary Ekenstam Sat evening at Hinckley the newlyweds were given a reception in the Cultural Hall of the church by the bride’s parents Gene and Jane Ekins In the receiving line were parents of the bride and groom the honored couple John Gross as best man Joyce Anderson and Nancy Ekins as bridesmaids Christy Ivie was at the book Music during the evening was furnished by Mario Mace and his daughter Julie The beautiful wedding cake was designed and made by the bride's mother Jane Ekins Guests coming from were Dr Merien Lamon Robins his wife Shirley and son Richmond Mrs Keith Black and son Steven Mrs Frank Wilde Lisa and Travis Wilde of Orem Mrs Jim Greg and son of Beaver Mrs Brent Mace and family Cedar City Ekenstam Cristy Ivie Logan The young couple in are spending their honeymoon southern Utah and will make their home in Logan where they will continue their schooling at USU Sheldon Western was Bishop honored by the Deseret Scout District with a special award Sunday in sacrament meeting Many of the districts leaders were there in scout uniform Claude Parkinson related his many accomplishments in the scouting program including helping 62 boys achieve the rank of Eagle and receiving the Silver Beaver Mr Parkinson also presented the award which was a complete surprise Verdell and Dana Bishop reported their mission to San Antonio Texas in the Hinckley First Ward on August 31 were their Attending from children Ray and Bev Bishop and 6 Scott Barbi Jenni Emily children Orem Michael and Ekins Mr Reeves is with the Board of Utah Mental Health Bea Hinckley drove to Spanish Fork Sunday and returned Monday Ph: 86 Archie and Eddys Barben traveled to Provo on Monday Sept 13 to attend a family get together 28 cousins of the William Wood family met together at the beautiful Don and Anne Peay home in Provo The food was pot luck and turned out great It was all delicious A very fun evening was spent visiting reminiscing getting acquainted laughing and having a great time Two uncles Mrs Dean Wood and Mrs Wood Bertha and Hazel aunt Clyde Harmon also attended This cousin’s party is a once a year fun time for everyone Mrs Goldie Miller returned home from a weeks trip to Thursday Pitsburg CA visiting a cousins who is 91 years old and still going strong W Palmer She traveled by Mrs train from Provo She enjoyed the beautiful scenery through the Sierra Mountains She had an enjoyable visit and Mrs Bill Miller met her in Provo and brought her home to Delta again On Saturday morning early Sept 20 Mrs Archie Barben Mrs Joe Stewart and Mrs Russell Stewart and daughters Jennifer and Brittney went to St George They visited with Mrs Gordon Barben and family and Mrs Preston Hafcn in Santa Clara They tended the graduation exercises in the student union building of Dixie College for the graduation of Miss Cindy Stewart from Evan’s School of Beauty They also attended the Dixie College football game in which their granddaughter Wendy Barben was one of the cheerleaders They surely did a fine beautiful job It was exciting There wete 5 girls from Delta who from Evan’s School of graduated Beauty on Saturday evening Sept 20 in the student union building of the Dixie College campus A delicious banquet started the celebration after which the graduation exercises followed Mr Donald Evans was the St George school instructor and graduated 24 girls from that school that evening the five Tina girls from Delta included: Linda Lee Tolbert Cody Clayton Jeri Johnson Clark and Cindy Stewart The Cedar City school also graduated 25 students The instructor was DeAnna Hillstcad They were all graduated in the same exercises and all from The Evans School of Beauty from A St George and Cedar City schools slide presentation was very interesting and humorous of picture snaps from the everyday woik experiences of the students Mr Dale J Evans and Mr Robert Evans piescnted the diplomas at Dixie in the college sun room College Mrs Archie Bat ben and Mrs Russell Stewart and two daughters Jennifer and Biittney traveled to Marysvale on Sunday to attend church in the Marysvale’s brand new chapel where Elder Jeffery Bat ben reported his 2 year mission in Dallas TX and area Spanish speaking mission Jeffery is the son of Mrs A Keith Barben and they just returned home after picking Elder Bat ben up from Dallas they ittle Rock Arkansas traveled to ‘where they stayed all night with President and Mrs laMont Bennett in the mission there They traveled to the Ozark Mountains interesting places came back home thiough Denver CO where they visited Mis Barbcn’s sister The trip was great interesting and educational for their whole family Jeffery is happy to be home He will attend school at Snow College this yeat FILLMORE Angie Green Last week Randy and Lecsa McKee spent four days here with Thora They were on vacation and Randy came to help his mother They have been coming down about twice a month since his father pased away in order to help Thora with the lot and yard and the many things that needed to be done ‘On Wednesday Sept 10 Delell Brunson went to Draper for a visit with her daughter Betty Conrad and her family She also visited in Salt Lake with her sisters Carol Swallow Teen Fawn and Rama Cline who is at the present a patient at the Doxey Hatch Medical Center where she is recovering from injuries received from a fall She is getting along very well and enjoys the other patients there and the pleasant surroundings Delell enjoyed visiting her family and also enjoyed the ride home on Friday Sept 19 with her daughter Betty Lynn and Gayle Evans and their six children of West Jordan came to Fillmore the evening of Sept 20 and spent a couple of days with Lynn’s grandmother Zina Hunter Lynn is an ambitious young man He dug some trenches and repaired Zina’s sprinkling system which has been in ill repair for some time Now Zina is enjoying being able to water her place without moving hoses When the Evans’ family left Fillmore they motored on to Lake Powell where they spent a few days boating Lynn is the son of Bernell and Mazine Evans of Salt Lake Charles Jackson of Salt Lake came to I illmore Friday Sept 19 to spend a holiday with his mother Velma Jackson To show off the powers of his new Jeep Wagoneer he look Velma into the Chalk Creek Canyon to sec the beautiful autumn leaves They dune on the new toad and Velma said the view was spectacular In the afternoon they dtove the the Deer Pastute Sand Rock Ridge and on to Paradise The road was rough but the mountains clad in bieathtaking colors created a panorama that erased the jolt of every bump and left only a very beautiful ntemoiy If you haven’t tried the new Chalk Creek road yet in Salt Lake earlier this month to see Trula Abbott who has been with her family while she recovers from surgery Neal is a member of the Utah National Guard so they were at Camp Williams for the annual Governors Day and amily Day activities Seven thousand National Guards men and women marched in the parade There was all kinds of entertainment for everyone-- it was like a county fair with a military touch Dale Abbott brought Trula home on September Ilth Don and Dorothy Croft came last weekend to give her a helping hand Trula will go back to Salt I ake next week to take a series of treatments She says she is feeling pretty good and it is good to be home for awhile Helen Warner was transferred to the from Utah Valley Delta Hospital Hospital on September 7th She hopes to be able to go home in the near future Jim and Maxene Owens were in Kaysville on September 7th to witness the baptism and confirmation of their grandson Jeff Owens son of Lenny and Janet Owens They also spent some time with Doug and Jarjorie LaBrec- qtie in Salt Lake Helen Watson took her sisters Lola Stoncking and Rosa Mae Lovell to Salt Lake on September 12th They went to Bountiful where another sister Vera King joined them They attended the State Fair and the Ice Capades They spent part of Saturday at Hogle Zoo then took Vera to her home and returned to theirs Maxine Owens Sandra Spencer and Jcanene Owens recently spent the day in Provo Veronica Tenney returned home on 15th after spending six September weeks in Salinas on Labor Day and spent a week there Tom hopes to find employment there Faye Tennant is lonesome since She had two of her school started here and they helped granddaughters her with all kinds of chores and errands last week Mike and LaPriel Mortcnsen spent a couple of Grace received word of the death of Vern’s older brother Leo K (Pete) Fowles Pete is survived by his wife Mary Hansen Fowles formerly of Hinckley Earl and Helen Fowles from Roosevelt went with Vern and Grace to Klamath Falls Oregon to tend their brother’s funeral Kim and Sheri Petersen and boys have been living in Salt Lake for the past two months Kim is working on construction at Kennecott Copper Lynn and Cozette Petersen and tle daughter are leaving Saturday to go to Idaho Falls where Lynn has employment Jess and Estell Bennett came from Holden to spend Saturday evening at the home of Saturday about noon bringing produce as was done in the days when the Temple was being built also a honeymoon couple These young people left the wagon train Friday night and were married in the Temple
