Show 8 - Millard ( ounh ( I SPS Ihurs Sepl 19 1985 $ port Delta North Elementary In The News Delta creams Emery The DNES PTA in cooperation with the Utah Arts is sponsoring a two week artist residency at Delta North Professional Mime artist Jerry Gardner will be working with all Delta North students for a two week period from September 16 to September 27 Students will learn about mime as an art form They will participate in workshops each day and will enjoy presentations from Mr Gardner We are excited about this program and anticipate its continuation in the upcoming years Welcome aboard Mrs Carlson Delta North Elementary salutes Mrs Treva Carlson one of our four third grade teachers This is Mrs Carlson's first year with the Millard School It is her second year in the District classroom She taught one year at a Middle School in New Mexico before moving to the Delta area Mrs Carlson is a great addition to our staff We are glad to welcome her aboard We hope she will enjoy us as much as we already enjoy her Mrs Carlson was born in Gallup New Mexico She has one sister and two brothers She has lised in Window Rock Arizona Gallup New Mexico Tohatchi New Mexico Provo Orem Ephraim and Delta Utah She attended Window Rock Elementary and graduated from Window Rock High School in Arizona She received her from teaching degree Brigham Young University She ahs also attended the University of Utah Mrs Carlson is married to Russell Carlson originally from American Fork Utah Fie currently works for IPSC The couple met through a common friend Mrs Carlson has kept busy during her lifetime In addition to her teaching she has also been a waitress and a stock and sales person Her number one hobby seems to be moving! The Carlsons are presently mosing into a new home across from Delta Middle School This makes 19 moves in the past 8 years When she is not busy mosing Mrs Carlson enjoys swimming dancing bike riding bowling and listening to music Back to School night When asked about an interesting perience she had during her own public education Mrs Carlson remembers the time when her sixth grade class had a party over at their teacher’s home They all had a big water fight out in the big ditch in front of the teacher’s home! Two Delta student body buses filled with screaming cheerleaders and TriDels rolled into Emery county last Friday to see the Rabbits destroy the Spartans “Kill Emery” was the chant from one of the buses and that’s exactly what Delta did with a final tally Along with the crushing quarterback sacks Delta’s hard hitting defense caused five turnovers four of them from Todd coming by interceptions Simmons Dusty Callister Jared Smith and Rob Young The Delta defense completely contained the Emery offense and didn’t let them score the whole game “Our defensive line put a lot of which pressure on the quarterback made it easier to get interceptions" said Todd Simmons “Buzz (Troy Overson) really fired up the defense and we never let Emery get things started offensively” Delta's offensive line played a marvelous game and made it possible to score 28 points on Emery’s highly Kited defense Delta only had three holding penalties much improved over last week’s eight Dave Porter tributed a lot of the success to the offensive line Brian Murdock and Russ Fowles tackles Jeff Jackson center and the guards Lance and Vance Terrell have all started on Delta's offensive line for three years “Even though Emery had a very big defense our offensive line got lower and had a lot more drive” said Lance “The running backs picked the holes and ran very hard” Vance added that everyone was moving forward “Our line pushed Emery’s defense back five yards then the backs ran for five more yards” he said All of these linemen are seniors this year and they average about 180 pounds After watching a little of the game the prep reporter covering the game from the Salt Lake Tribune called the Porter boys “unreal” Dave Porter carried the ball for 84 yards with a 76 average per carry He also had one TD Gary Porter had 62 yards on the night and rambled into the endzone twice first from eight yards out then a one yard run Delta rushed for 217 yards Shahin Safarian kicked four extra points Delta’s other score came from Jared Smith on a push into the endzone Jody Wright played QB during the fourth quarter after Jared was hit from the blind side while playing defense He will be able to play against South Sevier Tailback Bruce Nielson isn’t sure about playing Friday because he suffered a badly bruised shoulder “I’ll have to wait and see how it feels” he said He carried the ball 18 times for 56 yards Bret Draper who was starting at suffered a knee injury in the Richfield game and isn’t sure if he can come back this season "I will be out for at least six weeks” he said The Rabbits ended up with a Not score which makes their record only were the players on the team psyched up and excited but the whole Delta fan section was alive and going crazy “When people support you and make noise you do a lot better” said Colt Moody Delta will play South Sevier here Friday The Rams are undefeated and in the Salt Lake Tribune ranked No Millard folds to Manti In the first league game of the season the Millard Eagles dueled The match the Manti Templers loss for the Eagles resulted in a The first touchdown was scored by the Templers and though the Millard team tried they couldn’t catch up with Manti as they made two more touchdowns and an extra point Our team has worked hard and we have no doubt however that they will have a lot of success in the future They’re a great team and we’re proud of them for their efforts We hope that and support them game to be played the Delta Rabbits the action!!
