In all honesty, when was the last time you had a legitimate conversation? These occurrences are not happening face-to-fa- enough. conversations allow us to perceive communication used in conversation. According to Dr. Albert Mehrabian, author of Silent Face-to-fa- non-verb- ce al Messages, 93 percent of our communication is nonverbal with 55 percent being body language and 38 percent being tone of voice. Think of how much we are missing out on when we constantly text, Snapchat or instant message. conversations enable humans to have the purest of Face-to-fa- ce True relationships that last are ultimately built on the ability to converse with other people vocally while in their presence. Relationships can be developed online, but in order for those to last, there is a need to have sustenance behind those relationships and you only gain that through interacting with others in person. The real world demands for individuals to communicate face to face. Unfortunately, there is a good chunk of millennials who don't have these skills mastered. This will hurt them down the road in their relationships and careers. As each generation comes along, I'm afraid our inability to communicate face to face will only get worse due to the dependency people have on technology. I am a part of this problem just like the rest of you. When was the last time you went without your cellphone for a day? Could you manage such a task or are you ,suffering from nomophobia, which is the fear of not having your phone? Whatever the case may be, there is a solution. Talk. Don't allow yourself to get sucked into this virtual world. Never forget there are living and breathing people all around you that have voice boxes too. You will find your conversations and life more fulfilling as you substitute conversations for the emojis that litter your screen. In -- ,,,,,- ;, - lug fashion, America tamed f -, its back on politi- - cians and voted to "drain the swamp" and make America great again by electing Donald Trump. Republicans maintained Senate and House control, and now with conservative Trump, it's a clean conservative sweep. Media and news networks are calling it "the most stunning upset in American history." Even though I support Trump and the "Make America Great Again" movement, I was incredibly surprised by the results of the presidential election. Exit polls and media outlets predicted a Clinton victory, and Fox News said they would likely call the election by II p.m. By I a.m., the results had me jumping for joy. When Trump decided to run for president, I, along with several major media outlets, thought he did not really have a shot. When Ted Cruz beat him in Iowa, it was the same rhetoric: Trump is not capable of winning. Until Trump took Wisconsin on election night, I bought what the media was telling me. Then Trump did what I thought was nearly impossiblehe won. How did he do this? It seems to me he won the election for two reasons. The first reason has nothing to do with who he was, but issues like growing nationa debt and detrimental fiscal policies. Exit polls showed that economic unrest was far the most concerning is. and Trump was the best cat didate to find a solution. Say what you want abou: who he was not. Many Americans, including myself, are frustrated with politicians. Americans are tired of scandals, lies and years of continuing problems that never get solved. That is what the vote proved Tuesday. Trump wants to drain the proverbial swamp, to change the culture in District of Columbia, and put an end to the regime of politicians who are all talk, no action. America adopted his goal to rid District of Columbia of corruption. Movement and momentum trumped the Clinton political machine and establishmentpun intended. The second reason he won was because he is a successful businessman who has promised to put an end to a few imperative issues in this country including economi6 JOE NELSON ,,,, , or vulgar. But we are dealing with a man who has continually called climate change a "hoax" and has vowed to dismantle the Paris Agreement, where 197 countries made a pact to take measures to cut down carbon emissions. According to an al cicle in The New York Times titled "Donald Trump could put climate change on course for 'danger zone," Trump can't legally block other countries from performing their duties outlined in the Paris Agreement, and he can't completely erase Barack Obama's climate action plan, but he can weaken the enforcements to which this plan is followed. Some parts of Obama's plan include cutting carbon pollution from power plants, promoting American leadership in renewable energy, e) ; ,,, - 4 1k 4xlesundixie.edu e j - our campus? i We can't exactly say what Trump is going to do about federal government. It's pc sible that if the state ownec more land, more cormnerct land could be built on land that is protected. Trump has also spoken in favor of having former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin his Cabinet. Palin is knoNz to approve the use of frack ing and offshore oil drilling. Having her on Trump' Cabinet would also mean trouble for the environmett Besides fighting the government for reforms on protecting the environment, there are practices could be doing locally like and increasing fuel economy standards. But once Trump becomes president, he can choose not to follow the Paris Agreement for the U.S. I don't want to think about the reality our generation or the generation after us will face if this agreement is not followed in the U.S., but there is hope. I just want to say "thank you" to a president who has continually fought for climate change while in office. But, sadly, President Obama is leaving office, and the U.S. is going to have to deal with what Trump decides to do with the effects of climate change.. It's sad to say, once Obama leaves office, I'll be more impressed with what famous people like Ian Somerhalder or Leonardo DiCaprio will do for climate change than what our own president will do. We will need people like them and ourselves to continue fighting climate change, instead of just relying on the government. When it comes to Utah, the ownership of public land has been a long debated battle. According to an article published in The Spectrum titled "Trump win raises hope, worries about Utah's public land," many environmentalists fear what it would mean for Utah's land if it's no longer owned by the federal government. of Utah land is owned by the 1 b: L Trnmpls temperament and rude comments he has mad over the years, Trump is a winner.
