First off, i it is diffi- 4 cult for me to write this, mostly because not a lot of people outside of my friends ,,,,, 0 - and family know about it. Having anxiety is frustrating when you are faced with the negative connotation that I'll have a mental breakdown over the slightest things. I mainly don't tell people I have anxiety because people will often give me stares and treat me like I'm , ; about to fall apart when something bad happens. I've heard countless times by friends, family and even professors that I shouldn't do something because it might stress me out too much. And sadly, I used to take this to heart. But because of my anxiety, I have been able to accomplish even more. An article online at Odysseycom titled "Anxiety and the Empowered Mind," Ariel Haynes writes, "Anxiety gilifaat call, "disorders." They say they both agree that all lives matter and the hate needs to stop. "It is something we have created as a culture." I respect the Black Lives Matter movement because the supporters felt strongly enough about the perceived issue of cultural injustice, such as black unemployment and poor of black people by policemen, they then decided to take an ever stronger stand. "Black Lives Matter isn't a way to say we are better than any other race because that's not the case," said Kendall Pitts, Black Student Union president and a junior cornmtmication major from Las Vegas. "It's just a movement to make people aware that we are still here, still standing tall and ready to educate." While I do respect Black Lives Matter in what its supporters are attempting to do, I can not fully support a character- isfics in society, be honest on a daily basis. The fact that the Black Lives Matter movement has elicited a response called All Lives Matter proves that very little ground has been made in the three years Black Lives Matter has been around, which is sad. It becomes harder for someone to return to an honest lifestyle with each step taken down that dishonest movement that only furthers division. - Supporters of Black Lives Matter have never said, nor do they ever claim that 'only black lives matter.' Saying such an egregious thing would be futile and warrant a reaction even more obvious than the All Lives Matter one I see popping up. On the surface, the All Lives Matter movement seems so obvious, almost superfluous. The people behind the All Lives Matter movement don't see LIVES 4 page 5 path. Dixie State University is a stepping stone for us students as we begin adulthood. In each class, we are required to meet a list of obligations assigned to us by our professors. Those tasks we are given can range from attendance to the final exam. Each obligation requires us to be honest as we complete what we claim to be our own every assignment. Some go as far as claiming the works of others to be their own. It is not only plagiarism some student struggle with but cheating too. I know a professor who would flunk them right out of class for these offenses. Randal Chase, a professor of communication, said he feels bad for students who resort to cheating and plagiarizing others' work. He said he has seen more plagiarizing in the last two years than in his previous nine years here at DSU. AS a result, Chase said he has had to flunk five students in those two years for plagiarizing and cheating in his classroom. Being dishonest not only affects us in school, but can affect our lives after college. I have seen how dishonesty can ruin personal relationships. It can land individuals in prison because of their dishonest actions. The list of examples are endless. Mejandra Ramos, a junior finance major from St. Georg, said, "We're building those habits now, and they are going to show up later in our careers." If we value honesty, our lives will be that much easier. We won't have to worry about always having a cover story for our dishonesty, and people will have a greater trust in us as individuals. We will take work. Unfortunately, not every student is honest with each and see HONESTY page 5 |
