BY RACHEL TANNER Dixie Sun Editor in Chief With a myriad of new fashion trends for fall, both men and women can try new styles in order to look their best on campus. This fall, its all about the style of jeans for women, said Nicole Marro, store manager at Aeropostale in Red Cliffs Mall. The trendiest style for women is wide leg jeans. They are best worn with a fitted top to avoid looking big all over and with heels to elongate the legs, according to www.collegefashion.net. Other jeans popular this season include the returning skinny jeans and distressed jeans. For men, jeans continue to be a staple. They can be worn with anything from a to a jackplain et or sports coat for a nicer occasion, according to an article titled Fall Fashion for 2008 in the Aug. 15 issue of The Daily Gamecock by Haley Dreis. According to the article, layering is one way to mix and match wardrobe items. Women can try layering a summer sundress over a long sleeved for a casual look, or pairing skinny jeans, a dress and heels to go out on the weekends. Vests are popular for both men and women this fall. Men can wear their vests over a button up collared shirt for a more dressy look, while women can be more versatile. They can pair a vest with a a dress, a skirt or wide leg jeans. Scarves will also be popular this season, according to the article. I think the new vest trend is really fun and different, said Jenny Jones, a sophomore elementary edu rt, cation major from Toquerville. I havent tried one yet, but I think Im going to go get one because you can either dress them up or down. Marro said ballet flats are definitely the most popular shoes for girls this season. These flats come in every design from metallics to patterns, and are perfect for walking across campus to class in a hurry, according to convenient. You just slip them on and go. Boots will also be making a comeback this fall, with several more options in design. According to the September issue of CosmoGIRL! magazine, peep toe boots will also make their debut this fall. Jason Tippetts, a sophomore biology major from Las Vegas, said he is looking for a serious girlfriend this semester. I have played the chasing game for too long, he said. I look for an athletic girl who is motivated and determined. I always look at the eyes first. I like a girl who is intelligent and independent, but not independent enough that she doesnt need a man. Andrew Goll, a sophomore biology major from Marathon, Fla., said he wants a cute girl who knows how to have a good time. She has to be romantic and smart, he said. I know Ive fallen for a girl when she walks in a room and I cant keep a smile off my face. Most people have experienced cloud nine, day dreaming all day about the amazing date they went on the previous night. Tippetts said the best date he's been on was a night in Vegas. He took his date to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in Caesars Palace, walked through the Forum Shops, rode buggies at the Aladdin, enjoyed the fountain show at the Bellagio, and spent a few hours at a nearby park until it was back to his house for a movie. He said this was his favorite date because no one wanted to go home at the end of the night It was a double date with a really good friend, and both the girls personalities complimented each other really well, he said. At dinner we had to have all of our food boxed because we were laughing so hard. The whole date was awesome. Freshman Jen Sorpold, an elementary education major from Hurricane, said she knows she really likes someone because she gets butterflies and memorizes all his classes. And random things remind you'of them, she said. Like you see a candy bar you know they like, and then you really want it. Sorpold said a guy once really put forth effort to ask her out He wrote a poem that included all her personal interests, and she was surprised by how much he knew about her. He knew all the things I liked, and it was cheesy but totally cute because he put forth so much effort into it, she said. Thats what made it so cool. However, not everyone is looking for serious relationships while attending college. Sophomore Jenn Sanbei, a dental hygiene major fiom Juneau, Alaska, said: Im a really independent person. I cant hang out with one person very long; I have to have breaks. If I had to hang out with the same person every day I would go crazy. Sorpold said the only bad thing about dating in college is that guys can get clingy, and they try to be senous when you dont want that. Sometimes they don t take a hint, and that kind of sucks, she said. Nick Mihalopoulos, a freshman communi- cation major from Anchorage, Alaska, also isnt looking for anything serious. Unless I feel something is going to last forever, I dont want to lose a good friendship, he said. A friendship is more important to me than intimacy. Im very selective in what I invest my emotions in. Guys can have their hearts broken just like girls can. Mihalopolulos also said he doesn't want a girl who looks like all the rest. The most attractive thing to me is a girl that doesnt walk the same line everyone else does, he said. She can catch my eye by being different, not like all the other Barbie dolls walking around. Mihalopoulos also said girls and guys are much more similar Guys get reall) excited just like gi do, we just dont show it, he said, we have an awesor date were going tc jump around in car and scream and stuff too. We just dont think its coo show that emotion our the girl. Communication instructor Kristin Hunt said she like' create an atmosphe in her classes when students feel more comfortable with other, where they respectful of each other and have fun creating relations k College is the lean opportunity to e a come to know your self, she said. A the more you appro ate yourself the m' open you are to app ciate another. Sorpold said dati' what college is about, not classes is a |
