Show JANUARY WEDNESDAY, NEWS 19,2005 5- - DIXIE SUN College names students, staff of fall semester 2004 BY TALITA AGUIAR Dixie Sun Staff Writer The fall 2004 semester ended and 18 students were named Students of the Semester and two Staff Association Employees of the Semester were also announced. Donna L. Stafford, director of student activities at DSC, said, to select the 18 students of the semester, Annie Vandermyde, who is academic vice president, had to send application forms to each department heads, so each department head would nominate the students to be recognized in various academic disciplines. There was a luncheon at the Gardner Center on Dec. 10 to give the awards to the nominated students of the semester of each discipline, Stafford said. According to a Dixie State College press release, Ryan Hardison, a junior from St. George, received the honor in the area of art; Karen Stokes, a sophomore from St. George, was named administrator stu dent of the semester; Tennille Olsen, a freshman from North Ogden, received the award in the area of communication; Carla Neilson, a senior from St. George, received computer science honors; Kurt Marchant, a freshman from Beaver, received the award in the area of developmental studies; Danyelle Evans was named dental hygiene student of the semester; Diane Winger, a senior from St. George received the award in the area of elementary education; Elizabeth Jensen, a freshman student from Salt lake City, won the award in English area; Kellie Clove, a freshman student from Enterprise, received the award in the area of education and family sciences; Shannon Kay Stead, a sophomore from St. George, won the award in humanities; Claucia Talbot, a sophomore from Hurricane, in humanities from the Hurricane Center; Cynthia Heaton, a sophomore from St. George, in mathematics from the Hurricane Center; Brant Nikolaus, a sophomore from St. George, in mathematics; Tammy Lewis, a senior from Kanab, in nursing, Kendalee Richardson, a sophomore from St. George, in science; John Smith, a sophomore from Burley, Idaho, in social science; Mason Petersen, a freshman from Ogden, in theatre arts; and Elizabeth Stucki, a junior from Cedar City, in visual technology. Janeene Cowley, Cowley said Garner was nominated because she is a perfectionist who works well beyond the eight-hou- r day in order to finish a job, and she works continuously to accommodate students with tutoring and advisement. Olsen was nominated because she has a vast knowledge of her depart ment, being the best department secretary on campus, and she is loved by all the Ambassadors and students she works with, Cowley said. The selection was through the application forms that I sent for every person from the Staff Association," Cowley said. Every person in the association chose one person, and then they sent back the forms to me, so I could analyze and see who would be announced as the Staff Association Employee of the Semester. The announcement of those two names occurred on Dec. 15 at the Gardner Center, she said.
