Show 10- - ARTS DIXIE SUN & ENTERTAINMENT THE VOICE OF DIXIE STATE COLLEGE OF UTAH Singin in the Rain showers delight BY LORA HUDSON Dixie Sun AAE Editor WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29. 200 4 Teen Idol provides refreshing for rainy days study break the ruse because most of PREVOST BY MEG Dixie Sun Staff Wnter Tuacahn gives the original movie musical "Smgin' in the Rain" a run for its money with the live version of the timeless story The pluy opened with boisterous Cosmo, acted by Jacob ben Widmar, miming a hilarious solo number outside of Craumann's Chinese Theatre. Cosino continues to delight and entertain throughout the production, establishing himself as one of the most memorable characters. The pleasant opening scene set the humorous mood of the play, while introducing one of the play s themes, silent movies. Following Cosmo s humorous endeavors, the audience is introduced to the big wigs of the film industry, including maor silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont Heartthrob Don, played by David Tinney, is the epitome of a valiant, strong dominant male, while leading lady Lina, Stephanie Brienholt is nothing but a pretty face. Lina holds up the show as a vain, untalented airhead with a squeaky voice. It is hilarious to watch her struggle with the transition from silent to sound films. Some of the funniest parts of the play wore listening to Lina recite movie lines with her shrill whine drowning Cook Review out the microphone, while making facial expressions equally atrocious. Brienholt, a naturally talented singer, does an amazing job at maintaining the wonderful awful accent throughout the entire play. The climax of the play surfaces when Don teams up with love interest Kathy, played by Erika Gunn, to save The Dueling Cavaliers." "Cavaliers is a silent movie turned musical that is heading for destruction because of Lina's lack of talent. Although the lovers' chemistry could have been more convincing and their frequent kisses less forced, both are extremely talented and provided beautiful songs and entertaining dancing. Don especially impresses audiences with his performance of the famous melody, "Singin' in the Rain." The song was accompanied by real water showering the stage. The water was a special effect that brought life to the emotions of a star. It was delightful to watch Don exuberantly dance all over the street, singing his little heart out while becoming increasingly soaked. The show was delightful and professional, a must-se- e for Tuacahn lovers. Anyone interested in attending the production may contact Tuacahn's box office at The show runs from now until love-struc- k Oct. 16. Everyone likes Jen Greenly.
