Show 8 -- OPINION DIXIE SUN While those testaments may have importance, its surely THINGS continued from PAGE 5 Which brings me to my point' The unimportant things are the most fun and best things in life! It doesnt matter whether it is the PS 2, swimming, golf, watching gangster movies, skateboarding, napping, watching Friends, or whatever the vice may be. That is unimportant. For an example I am going to use skateboarding. In the rest of this article insert whatever form of unimportant activity is best for you to be able to pick up what Im putting down. Skateboarding is very, very, very unimportant by and large. Of course, people claim that skateboarding has saved their lives, or allowed them to rise from the depths of depression, or taught them everything they know, or that skateboarding has allowed them to see the world in a different light. frivolity skateboardings that allowed those testaments to be made manifest. Dont you think? just looked up "frivolity.' It means "of little or no weight, characterized by lack of seriousness." 1 The time skateboarding (or whatever unimportant vice you have been inserting) finds itself anchored in life can seem very solemn and arrogant, but it really isnt. Why? Because it is skate- boarding! People carrying themselves with a false air of significance or standing behind the facade of notability are pretending. It doesnt matter if you can beat the PS 2 game, have the fastest car, memorized all the movie lines, can jump the highest, or The people who whatever! shout about these things are the same people who you WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2002 hear say "Ive got more important things to do! The act of skateboarding is fun. Its purely good. (It took me awhile to write these next lines, you better like them) Its a complex diversion. A glad handed cluster of details and moments that are ultimately and beautifully unimportant deep down to the core. It doesnt matter in the least. And through the nature of our activities" "unimportant insignificance, they call to us. They beckon through school walls, scream through garbage day, laugh at us from inside our jabbering boss while we are stuck doing what has to be done or what is "more important." For me, without my planner Ive become a new man. I talk to peers and hear them say, "Ive got homework," or, "I have to work" or whatever. Me, I walk around with a smile all day because my motto is, "Ive got less important things to do." FROM OUR READERS Great Job After going to Dixie for sometime and having seen many newspapers come my way, I have to say that this paper is one of the best I have read. It deals with issues that affect the students and has plenty of current information. The last issue that had the Homecoming Royalty on the front cover and that had happened the night before! I was very impressed that The Sun has done such a great job to get newsworthy information to us all. I have also noticed that its reporters are very profes- sional when talking with faculty, staff, and students. They also seem to walk with a sense of pride when asked about their work in The Dixie Sun. It is nice to see the Dixie Spirit in the paper and its reporters. Thanks Dixie Sun and keep up the good work. BenJoe Markland ASDSC Student Body President Marriage NOT Easy am writing in response to the article "Juggling life after marriage." I am 20 and just got married on July 25 of this year. I think that Sophia doesn't really know what she is talking about. She is living in some dream world if she thinks that life after marriage is EASY! I i dated my husband for a year before we got married, and I would just like to say that marriage is a lot harder than dating. First of all, I see my husband less than I did when we were dating because now we both have to work more just to pay the bills. Secondly, though insurance goes down a little (only in some cases), there are many other things that you have to worry about paying for, such as birth control and health insurance. Let me tell you, these things aren't cheap. I Although eating out is more expensive than making your own meals, cooking is a lot of work and most of the time after you get through with school, work, and everything else you are too tired to make a "good cheap married meal."
