The theme for the girls choice date dance, which was held in the Gardner Center was Be All You ballroom, Can Be, and the dance was a tremendous success due to the abundant student support. Preference was kicked off to a great start when several girls got daring by asking their chosen date to escort them to the dance, in front of the audience at the recent Mr. Dixie competition. Many who attended the event took creativity to new levels. One group of couples who attended the event held a Dating Boot Camp, pnor to the dance. This Dating Boot Camp", included competitions in such events ranging from painting your dates toenails to a balloon toss game. Students became extremely involved in participating in the theme for the evening, most couples were decked out m army attire and even the tickets sold to get into the event were appropriately adorned in camouflage paper. The disc jockey for the dance became a hit with the students, playing classic songs such as Fishing In the Dark, and songs from the Disney movie, The Little Mermaid. Preference 2001, Be All You Can Be, was hugely successful, giving DSC students who attended the dance, a chance to take a break from college studies and enjoy the benefits of student life. night. photo by Brooke Hansen Happy Valentines Day! This chain link fence blocks off the vacated basement of the Graff Fine Arts Cen- ter. The basement was vacated in 1998 because it did not meet fire safety codes. The abandoning of the basement portion of the building has put a strain on the fine arts departments ability to provide a quality education. It also raised con- cerns that the building is unsafe. Those concerns, say DSC administrators, have been ignored by Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt by not making the rebuilding of the edifice a top priority. photo by Brooke Hansen |
