Show n March 3, 1999 brooksinfowest.com Students Hear From Orrin Hatch Poet Enlightens Dixie By Brooks Shelton brooksinfowest.com Orrin Hatch, known to some as, "Mr Constitution," or "Mr Free Enterprise," spoke to Dixie College students and St. George residents last month Hatch is the US senator for Utah and has been smce 1976 He is also the chairman of the senates' judicial branch. Born in March of 1934, Hatch was raised m a family He grew up learning the trade of his fathers metal work until after high school. Hatch then supported his way through college at Brigham hard-worki- Young University, working as a janitor After graduating from BYU, he was awarded a full honors scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh Law School. He graduated there, with honors, and soon received his law degree Then in 1976, without any experience, Hatch ran for senate and won. He is now involved in many committees and causes and also played a big part during Clinton's impeachment trial. He also does many public and speeches appearances including one here at Dixie where he spoke about the impeachment, among other tilings. Hatch said that during the impeachment trial, he wanted to pass a recommendation of impeachment without removal. "I voted guilty on both counts, which I believe was the right vote," said Hatch. He also believes that, "It's questionable about whether the President feels any remorse about what happened." For over a hour. Hatch answered questions asked by tire crowd. He addressed issues of the environment, the state of the republican party, Bill Gates, China's economy, his opinion about getting involved in politics, and of course, President Clinton. Hatch also shared a more personal side of himself, his music loving side. A song was performed by a group from Pine View high school.
