Well Brittany McGee sure can. McGee grew up in Beaver, Utah with her parents Roger and Paula Smith and her four brothers. Some of McGee's fondest memories while growing up, are of her and her brothers beating each other up on and off the basketball court. Thanks to those occasional beatings and much practice McGee is now the starting point guard for the Lady Rebel Basketball team. Starting her basketball career at the tender age of ten, McGee started playing on the Beaver Bantam Basketball League. Once McGee hit her Freshman year in high school, winning the state title seemed to be her only option. All four years at Beaver High McGee started for the varsity squad, and all four of those years Beaver took first in state. Seeing any connection here? During McGee's senior year she received the State MVP award along with an All- - State player award for basketball. Also during high school McGee was a three-spo- rt athlete. She not only showed off her skills on the basketball court, but also on the volleyball court and the softball field all four years. McGee is obviously very talented in athletics, but also very disciplined in academics. During McGee's senior year she was awarded the Science Sterling Scholar, and also managed to graduate with a 3.97 GPA. After high school a number of colleges were prospects for McGee. The decision between; Snow College, Dixie College, tire College of Eastern Utah, Southern Utah University and Mesa State wasn't an easy one. But head coach Dave LaVetter and the closeness of Dixie college to her home town made up McGee's mind. McGee was offto play point guard for the Rebels. Last year McGee lead the Scenic West Athletic Conference in three point percentage and was ranked tenth in assists. This year McGee averages 11.3 points, 2.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. "McGee brings intelligence to the game, it's like having a coach on the floor," said head coach Dave Lavetter. "She also brings to the team, sophomore leadership and big baskets during big games, we're very fortunate to have her." McGee's best game this season was against the Eagles from CEU, where she scored her teams first nine points and had a total of 21. McGee carries a 3.67 GPA a Dixie and is majoring in health occupations. Along with her hectic college schedule, McGee finds time to do some of her favorite things like camping and hiking along with her husband Jeff. McGee plans on transferring to a major university after Dixie, but is not quite sure if she's going to continue her basketball career there or not. 1999 Graduates Bilingual Software Support and Consulting DUS Winning seven straight consecutive games can seem like heaven, until that one little something goes wrong. Dixie's women's basketball team had this happen, as they lost a heartbreaker over the Lady Badgers from Snow College last Friday night. Dixie who is now ranked 21st in the national polls had a hard time executing on offense. Dixie's down under doubletrouble, Janelle Romney and Caroline Heaton were in foul trouble most of the night and the ball couldn't get inside for them to shoot. This forcing most of the shots outside the perimeter. "We hung in there, but we didn't step up and play," Head 62-5- 9, Coach Dave LaVetter said. "Snow hit the shots needed." The Lady Rebels managed to keep up with Snow's pace but they just didn't execute. Dixie found themselves down by one with only 22 seconds to go, but Snow had the answer to the question and ended the night with the victory. Dixie dropped their conference record to 13-- 3 and 23-- 5 overall. The Lady Rebels now find themselves in a two-wa- y tie with Ricks who had victories over Colorado Northwestern, and the College of Eastern Utah this past weekend. The Lady Rebels will travel to Twin Falls, Idaho to face the College of Southern Idaho, then to Oregon to fae Treasure Valley this coming weekend, then it will be Regionals for both the men's and women's squads. "We have to play much better to win against CSI and TVCC this weekend," LaVetter mentioned. "To do this we must have a good week of practice."
