Lady Rebs lose two on the road By Courtney Gressman editor After a tough run at Ricks College and North Idaho, the Dixie womens basketball team had to bring home two losses to add to their record. Friday night, the Lady Rebels lost to Ricks College At half time, the score was tied after much sweat and hard played defense. As the second half began, the Lady Rebels started to take shots that they normally wouldnt, attempting to take the lead. But the shot selection for the Rebels was not enough for them to rally back. Brittany Booth led the team with 13 points, Janeile Romney had 12. Coming off the bench, Adrienne Sigford had seven points for the Rebels. After the loss Friday, the team traveled to North Idaho. Once again, lady luck was not on the Lady Rebels 71-5- 6. side. The shots did not seem to fall. Even though every girl but two scored for the Rebels, it was not enough to defeat NIC. Dixie came up short 90-6Georgette Brewer had an impressive 16 points for the Rebels, while Booth and Brittany McGee both added 10. We really wanted to control the ball and make the other teams play defense each time down the floor, LaVetter said. But our turnovers in the second half of both games hurt us. LaVetter was impressed by the way both teams played this weekend, but the Rebels just couldnt make their shots. The Lady Rebels are now and will play this weekend at home. The Rebels are looking forward to this weekend to try and get back on the winning side. Friday the Rebels will play Utah Valley and on Saturday they face Salt Lake Community College. 13-- 4 Intramural sports - your Oprah substitute Hie search. By josh bruni SPORTS WRITER What is your average Tuesday like? Is going to school for hours upon hours, or studying for countless hours, a familiar routine? Possibly, its going to school all day then coming home to unwind watching Oprah ride the rollercoaster of weight gain, while popping corn chip after corn chip into by your mouth. Well, for some people that is a satisfying life, but for Dixie College Intramural athletes who thirst and hunger for fierce competition, its not. All those athletes who participated in flag football know what I mean. Many Dixie College students participated in flag football this fall and many more are expected to turn out for the upcom ing winter sport, basketball, which begins play Tuesday, Jan 13, in the old gymnasium at 4 p.m. Overall, the football season went well, commented Dave of the director Johnston, Intramural Sports. Many people complained about the referees, but thats normal, he added. At the captains and officials meeting, which took place last week, players and officials learned about a new rule which prohibits play after receiving a flagrant or technical foul. This new rule was enacted to keep the games extremely competitive under control. If you have any questions about intramural basketball, or are interested in helping to organize another winter sport other than basketball, i.e. racquetball, contact Dave Johnston at |
