The Hope Scholarship is more valuable to families in the 15 percent tax bracket with taxable incomes of less than $40,100 in 1996. That means it benefits families who are less likely to have the private resources to send their children to more expensive private institutions. This is a great opportunity for eligible Dixie College students to take advantage of this federal aid program. So if you waited to pay for school fees after Jan. 1, 1998, you are eligi- ble. The Hope scholarship can help many students and families, with their taxes and a students education, which is the key to success. Overworked and underpaid By Annette Seegmiller know that all my work will eventually pay Staff Writer off. College students go day in and day out with a repeated schedule. They wake up early in the morning to get ready, and grab a cereal bar on the way out the door to class. ' Having stayed up all night studying after work, classes seem to drag by, but when they are finally finished for the day, theres enough time to run home, grab a quick lunch and head back to work for another 6 hours just to make enough money to pay for college It sounds appealing to many students, to earn and have money to enjoy all the recreation that this area offers, but working 6 days a week and attending school for 5 days can be almost too time consuming to enjoy any extra money. Most students can manage to sleep only 6 hours with these grueling weekly schedules and weekends, they usually consist of catching up on some much needed sleep time, besides working nights. Lack of energy caused by stress can affect schoolwork. Just ask those students who are on scholarship probation for not meeting the required criteria of keeping it Many students finally let the stress just run by them and escape all that they can to relieve themselves of having too much to do and no time to do it until they just dont do anything. Money can be nice and help out a lot, but if an education doesnt come first, then your nightmares will living the rest of your life overworked, and definitely expenses. Studies show that over 40 percent of students work at least 4 hours after school to make money to pay for school, car payments, and living expenses. Whether it be waiting tables, scanning groceries, or answering jobs are an essential part phones, part-timof student life. By the time most students clock out from work, its bedtime, but instead of hitting the sack, they can look forward to 3 hours of homework, sometimes even more. In whatever form you choose to imagine students in the work force, always remember that stress can be very intense, and sometimes it seems to get worse, especially when mid terms and finals come around. But one thing can be said for these hard working young people a valuable lesson of responsibility is being learned. Its hard to work and go to school at the same tune," said Natalie Nickell, But I e 1-- 4-- 4-- |
