Editor: Ciiaundra Stewart Dixie Choirs and Bands Perform SUN NEWS SERVICES Choirs and Jazz Band Perform The Dixie College Chamber Choir and Concert Choir will join with the Jazz Band for a Concert and Dance, Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is at the O.C. Tanner Amphitheater in Springdale. Under the direction of Dr. J. Kim, the Chamber Choir will sing several numbers followed by the Concert Choir. The Jazz Band, under the direction of Gary Caldwell, will play "Night and Day, " by Torter, "Sing, Sing, Sing," by Prima, "Mack the Knife," by Weill, "It Could Happen to " you, by Van Heusen, and other "Big Band" sounds for the dance portion of the program. Instrumental soloists will be Scott Jacobsen, tenor saxophone; Kari Suggs, alto saxophone; Kimball Willard, trombone; Del Ahlin, trumpet; Justin Hansen, piano; and Matt Burgon, percussion. Tickets are $4 per person, and can be purchased at the Dixie Center, R and K Bookstore and the O.C. Tanner Amphitheater gate. Dixie College Band Performs "Mostly Sousa" Concert The Dixie College Symphonic Band, along with band teachers and selected students from area high schools, will perform a concert of "Mostly Sousa" marchThe es. program will be presented May 15 at 8 p.m. in the Cox Performing Arts Center. Guest conductor will be Allan Glenn Miller, trombonist and director of instrumental music at Yuba College, in Yuba, Calif. The band will play several marches by John Phillip Sousa including: "Riders for the Flag," "Sabre and Spurs," "The Iigh School Cadets," "Daughters of Texas," "Pride of the Wolverines, " and "Stars and Stripes Forever." Other numbers will include "Cavorkna Fanfare" by Stamp; "Esprit De Corps" by Jager; "Finale" from "Kalinnikov's Symphony No. in G Minor" by Bainum; "Fugue in D Minor" by Duarte; and "Overture to Candide" by Bernstein. "Liberty Lighters," a newly composed march by Robert Crump, clarinetist and director of Dixie iigh School Band, will be premiered at the "Mostly Sousa" Concert. Next fall, Dixie College band director Gary Caldwell will travel to Yuba, to perform a conducting exchange with guest conductor Miller. Tickets are $3 per person, $5 per couple or $7 per family, and can be purchased at the Dixie Center Box Office. Children under the age of five are discouraged from attendance. I 1 1 Piano and Organ Recital The Dixie College piano and organ students of Lu Jennings will be featured in a recital, Monday, May 19 at 8 p.m. in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Building.
