Show 1 JACK RABBIT HELPS HS MISTER FOX I Jack Rabbit was rather worried about Mister Fox with the bone in his throat although never himself having had such an accident he scarcely appreciated the pain that M Mister ster Fox was wa suffering He went to Farmer Wilsons Wilson's house and tried to get the tongs but the e family were all about and he saw no way to to do it What shall I do he said aid to him silt and th then n he thought If I I Iwas was I suffering I really think that Mister I Fox wo would ld be willing g to run considerable consid er erable ble risk to help me and I 1 ought to be willing to do as much for him If I can only get the people out of the house I could go in and get the tongs But how to get t the e people out of the house he did not know All at once he said to himself I suppose that if It they thought they could catch me they would come out because they would think what a nice stew I would make And thinking this he said to himself I will go out where they i ican can see me make believe I am lame latie and then they will try to catch me So Jack Rabbit dragging one leg behind him as as- asif If it had been injured injured injured in in- stepped boldly out into the yard He had been there only a minute min mm- ute before Mrs Wilson looking out of the window saw him him Come children she called and see the rabbit out In the yard I wish your father was here for he could sho shoot t tit it and then we would have a rabbit stew I And look he is lame said one of the children Perhaps we could catch him I do not believe he could run very fast And with that Mrs Wilson and all the children came running running run run- ning out into the yard Jack Rabbit when he saw them coming started to move away but dragging his leg after him he ran only as fast as need needed d to keep out of their way and mal 3 them think that in a minute or two they would be able to catch him But all the time he was running away from the house and Mrs Wilson and the children were getting farther and farther away from the open door into the kitchen For ten minutes or so he let them chase him down the dusty dusty dusty dus dus- ty road Now said Jack Rabbit to himself himself him him- self it Is about time for me to get over being lame and with a long jump he leaped over ver over the ditch at the side of of the road went under the fence and turning ran as fast as a rabbit can run back toward the house That rabbit got over the lameness mighty quick said Mrs Wilson Vilson as she saw Jack taking long jumps back backover backover backover over the field I wonder if he was was playing a j joke ke on us But both she and the children were too tired to hurry on the way back and when Jack Rabbit got to the house he found he had plenty of time to go in a aid add d get the tongs without any danger of pf getting caught And when he got back to Mr FO Fox's Foxs 3 house Mr Fox was indeed very glad to see him The next question was how was Jack Rabbit who was much smaller than Mr Fox going to reach down his throat and get the bone But Jack Rabbit suggest suggested d that if Mr Fox would lie He down own on the ground and andopen andopen andopen open his mouth he would be able to tose se see where the bone was and get at It So Mister Fox went up to the top of the hill bill and lay down so that when he opened his mouth the sun would shine down his throat and Jack Rabbit tongs in h hand nd got where he could look straight down Mister Milter Foxs Fox's throat It certainly looks very sore said Jack Rabbit but I can cali see the end of the bone and 1 if only keep keel still I am sure I can get it Mi Mister ter Fox kept as still as he could and Jack Rabbit got hold of the end of tl the e bone one in a minute and with a quick pull out It came j j i You are certainly a fine surgeon r said aid Mister Fox holding on to s throat I think you can hurt your patients just as much as any of th them m. m But I thank you very much even if you did hurt me because I know you did It Jt for my good And that leads me to say that there are very many many animals and nd very very many boys and girls who cry about abou things which are done for their good and which if they were not done would result in much more suffering There Is one little girl that I know that cries every eiery time her hair hairIs Is combed but just think what hei head would look like when she gr w up if her m mother ther never c combed it And I know a boy wo to whines and complains because his mother makes maes him brush his teeth but if he lIe didn't do d dIt it by and by they would ache ach all rl I the time and he would really have I something to cry about I will tell you some time about a a. young fox rox I 1 knew who got burs on his tail taU and because It hurt to have hll them pulled oft off he let them accumulate until his i tall tail was so heavy that he could not move it and they had to cut his tan tall off I shall be very glad to hear the story etory said Jack Rabbit but what are re we going to do with these tongs We will wm stand them up here on the top of the hill bill said Mister Fox and perhaps the shovel will get lone- lone I some corae and come after them |
