Show j99f The Dixie Sun Page 6 Ma Blind cyber date - chatting Wow! A hot date! That's right, and I needed to get into "red-ale- had a hot date, date mode." I make-up and started grabbed my slopping and glopping on about a dozen different facial products. As I was curling the last section of my newly dyed pink hair, the words from an article that ran in the Salt Lake Tnlnmc on May 10, entitled Cy bei space Love: Temptation lust an Away, came rushing to my mind. The article said that online interactions, i.e. internet chat lines, would soon be replacing the singles bars, personal ads and sex lines. The article stressed that the internet forced people to communicate verbally, it "removes the visual signals - the frown, the smirk, the rolled eyes - that can interacinhibit tions." The article also said that the internet removes a lot of the burden associated with the singles scene. "Meeting on the internet can be casual, requires little effort. ..you don't have to dress up. You don't have to drive in your car. You don't have to know which bar is happening." What a relief it would be to be able to stop worrying about how I look, and where I hang out. How wonderful it would be to communicate totalone ly verbally with someone, not another on looks. Actually, I have a personal experience that kind of lends support to the theories offered in the article. Recently a fan of this column me in response to the personal ad ran in the newspaper. The person. I'll call him "Dan" (not his real name, his real name is Doug), had a son he was interested in setting me up with. The son. I'll call him "Paul" (his real name is Steve), according to the "Dan's" seemed perfect, tall, dark, handsome, out doorsy, clever, intelligent, you name it and he was it. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not condemning "Dan", as a matter of fact. I'm really flattered that "Dan" would consider setting me up with his son. Anyway, "Dan" suggested I stop by "Paul's" work and talk to him. Instead, I opted to call "Paul" at work. On the phone "Paul" was really cool. Talkative, funny, charming, an all around really great guy. I rt face-to-fa- 1 facials Nails 6- - (May decided I'd better meet this guy in person before I made a decision on how wonderful he was. So I jumped in my car and cruised to his work and was received by the same charming, talkative individual. We decided we needed to hang out together and made a "date" to DJ a show on the local college station. The "date" was short, and resulted in both of us arguing the entire evening. I was flabbergasted, what happened to the charming, guy I had talked to on the phone with. Maybe seeing each other in person, and interacting with (there were body language, such as rolled-eye- s a lot of those) set us both on the defensive. Needless to say, the date was less than successful. That's why the chat lines are so t- appealing. The sanctity of a place where you can interact with people who can't prejudge you, based on looks or body language, is a great idea. However, the consequences worry me. How many psychotic weirdos lurk on the net? And, like I've said in previous articles, who's to stop people from lying. Still, there are success stories of people who have found love and happiness on the net. For example: A lady name Daniela Kirshenbaum and a guy named Andrew McDonald. This lovely couple met on the internet when Kirshenbaum went online from her laptop computer in a chat room called Echo. Echo is a New York based online community that is loosely described as a "quirky, literary crowd." Kirshenbaum and McDonald began exchanging as just friends, then they started talking p 21-2- EDI I Hay (Jan. 20 - Feb 18): Now is the time to Aquarius and feel m,:.c the confident about them.
