Rotary in Dixie turns in courageous performance win over Garden City By ERIC BENSON THE DIXIE SUN Their backs against the wall in more ways than one, the Dixie Rebels came up with a courageous 1 victory over Garden City in the Rotary Bowl Saturday. Playing without eight team members, who had been suspended, the Rebels matched the fourth-ranke- d Busters block for block and tackle for 26-2- Christmas presents for sports folk I It's that time of year again the holiday season. The time when people everywhere get to spend money on people that they haven't seen in three months, put up decorations so they can take them down, and put up with the foul odor of obnoxious relatives permeating the brisk winter air. In this most magical time of the season, I thought I'd help sports figures write Santa Claus a letter and suggest a few gifts, since some of these people have plenty on their minds right now. Hello Santa: Please give these gifts to the following people if you can. It would be greatly appreciated. Courtroom superstar O.J. Simpson would like about three hours to be accounted for last June, but if you can't manage that one, a judge that is a heavy USC booster would be nice. As long as you're in the L.A. area, visit the Clippers and give them a basketball strike. That way, it would be mathematically impossible for them to set the record for most losses in a season. When you get to Utah, how about a pair of fuzzy dice for the cab of that fun little pickup Karl Malone drives? When you head toward the east, please make a stop at Mike Tyson's cellblock in Indiana and drop off a crowbar, a filing tool, and maybe a sledgehammer, to make those prison nights a little more interesting. Finally, maybe you could swing up north and give the Buffalo Bills a vacation package to Bosnia in the last 'eek of January. These guys si ;m to have a death wish and maybe that would keep them out of harm's way. Eric Benson is sports editor of The Dixie Sun. tackle. With less than three minutes left in the game, Dixie safety Ron Kemp made a big tackle at the goal-lin- e to stop what might have been the winning touchdown for Garden City. "Thank goodness the field is 100 yards long," Dixie coach Greg Croshaw said. Reb quarterback Jamon Taylor threw two touchdown passes to Thedo Griffin, and scored another TD on a sneak. Afa Otuafi scored the Rebs' other touchdown. Dixie's defense sacked GC quarterback Chris Windsor and intercepted him three times. James Sapp had two pickoffs. : G ( vJKsh? t ' , iMji1.-!- , s t '' By DAVID WEST Although most students can't perform on an intercollegiate level, intramural sports are for everyone.
