A Dixie College professor averages $46,458.46 a year. Dixie's highest paid instructor is in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department and earns $51,846, while the e lowest paid faculty member only sees $20,975 per year in the Fine Arts department. The president of the college clearly full-tim- Dean of Student Affairs: $50,121.50 Dean of Business and Technology: $49,742 Executive Council votes for prayer By Tiffany Prince Sim In a meeting Tuesday morning, the new Executive Council voted to go ahead with prayer during commencement exercises this year. The decision was handed over to the Executive Council by President Bob Huddleston in a meeting of the College Council Monday. Huddleston and the other members of the council voted to turn the decision over to the students because they felt the graduation ceremony is for the students and they should be able to decide whether they want prayer as part of it. The Executive Council decided to continue the tradition of giving the Sophomore class president and the outgoing studentbody president the opportunity to pray. However, they have will have the choice to defer the prayer to a minister or another student if they wish. makes the most money with $82,030. Deans who assist the president average $50,147.07. Numerous instructors receive overload pay to add to their contracted salaries. One instructor in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department makes $17,167.50 in overload pay. Glen Blakley, a professor in the Fine Arts Department, said his overload pay comes from teaching summer school, evening school and doing work for Elderhostel. Blakley said he didn't mind having an overload, even though the pay is sometimes significantly less. "1 tnink it is important for all students to have an opportunity to learn," Blakley said. The Humanities and Social Sciences Department topped the other divisions with an average pay of $38,5 8.44 per instructor. Natural Science instructors come in second with a $36,172.24 average. Business and Technology instructors receive an average of $33,37 .68 and Fine Arts instructors average $30,588.23. Physical Education instructors are among the least paid with a $28,301.06. Rebel Awards honor the finest at Dixie n Zachary Truman was named Dixies Valedictorian for 1993-9Truman was one of the outstanding students honored at the annual Rebel Awards. 4. By Christi Gibson Sun Business Manager On the night of May 6, the best of Dixie were announced. The Rebel Awards program recognizes many outstanding achievements by those on campus. The nights event was emceed by The Tingey sisters. The Entertainer of the Year award went to Ryan Secrist, a theatre student who has entertained many in his various roles. Secrist has also had high academic achievements and has been involved in many school activities. The Achievement of the Year went out to Nurit Ronnie Justesen, a student who has made unusual sacrifices to gain a higher education. Because of her friendliness, sense of humor, school spirit, activity support, scholastic achievement and school involvement, Kaye Corbett was awarded the Personality of the Year. Corbett was the Representative on the Executive Council this past year. The Dixie Spirit Award recognizes a student who has shown enthusiasm, involvement, and attitude on behalf of Dixie College. This years award was given to Thomas (Chan) Crismon. The Distinguished Service Award went -- - Finalists for the Dixie Spirit award applaud as Chan Crimson steps up to receive his award for Dixie Spirit from the Tmgey sisters. Gibson has been the Inter-Clu- b Senate President and has been involved in many other clubs and organizations this past year including The Dixie Sun. Micah Deckart was chosen as the Scholar Athlete because of his achievements on the field and in the classroom. Deckart played football for the Rebels. The Outstanding Freshman Award was given to Kierste Badger, who also received the Kip Bowler Memorial Scholarship. Tracy Anderson was awarded as the Outstanding Sophomore. Badger and Anderson were chosen for these awards due to their academic achievements, involvement. attitude, and The Outstanding Teacher award is given to a faculty member who has motivated students in a particular way and uses professional skill. This years recipient was Max Bunnell. Marvin Persinger received the Distinguished Service Staff Award. Persinger, who will retire after this year, has spent many hours helping others. Dr. Max Rose, vice president of instruction, presented the Honor Graduates for this year, as well as naming the Valedictorian Zachary Truman. Dixie College President Robert Huddleston presented the Special Recognition Award to Victor Iverson. For the past year, Iverson has served as the ASDC president and has brought honor and prestige to Dixie College by achieving special recognition for the college. Kelly Kendall was presented the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Clayton Ramsay, alumni president. The new Dixie College Student Executive Council for next year was also introduced and sworn in. |
