Show Page 4 DIXIE SUN February 24, 1989 Campus Life Nothing Could Stop Success; For Pirates Of Penzance Tracie Mecham Staff Writer The recent production of the delightful musical, 'Pirates of Penzance', was definitely an example of 'the show must go on'. Through injury and illness the cast of Pirates of Penzance' successfully proceeded to entertain audiences for six nights. During the first night of the production, one of the lead actors of the play was seriously injured. Jody Allred, the Pirate King, was accidentally cut with a foil. There was a bleeding gash across his nose, but he held out until the end of the song which was about ten minutes long. Judd Johnson took over the part of the Pirate King for the night with five minutes notice, but the remainder of the play consisted e parts. I knew the show had to go on and I just concentrated on remembering the lines," Judd stated. Although Jody was greatly missed, Judd did an excellent job as the Pirate King. Another mishap took place on Saturday night as the lead lady became terribly ill. Patrice Prince, playing the part of Mabel, did a valiant job of trying to hold her part throughout the performance, while Lanette Barfuss filled in when necessary. Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., Lanette was informed that she would be taking Patrice's place. Needless to say, she spent that afternoon learning a complex singing role. Patrices performance was also missed Monday night, but again Lanette did an exemplary job as Mabel. The entire cast did a commendable job of shifting parts, both speaking and singing. Dr. Andersen said, "It was a tremendously good indication of a very strong cast, also a tribute to a well-traine- stage d manager(Randy Wangeran) and light man(lbdd Stoneking)." Overcoming these obstacles, the cast of 'Pirates of Penzance' pleased every audience. D'El Beatty did a good job of portray- ing Frederic with his great singing voice as did Patrice Prince.
