Show Page 4 DIXIE SUN February 12, 1988 Rebels Split At Home; Fall to 9 Troy Wood SUN Staff Writer Something happened this weekend in Burns Arena that has not happened since last year, the Dixie College Rebels lost a home game. On Friday, the Rebels struggled the whole game before overcoming a 10 point deficit in the final 4 minutes to defeat the College of Northern Idaho, 94-9- 1. Saturday, the miracle did not happen as the Rebels fell behind to Ricks by 15 late in the second half and could only trim the margin to 5. The final was 100-9- 5. The loss marked the first home loss for Dixie in 24 games. On Friday, the Rebels shooting was the factor that hurt them most as they hit only 40 percent from the field. To Corby McDamal of the Rebels white puts up the shot as No.44 Dale Decoursey and No. 22 Bob make up for the poor shooting, the Rebels dominated the boards as they were lead by sophomore center Steve Andrus, who had 15 rebounds and he also chipped in 18 points. The biggest lead of the half was 5 points, as the Rebels with just over a lead 42-3- 7 minute to play in the half. The game started on a high point as Darwin Russell hit two and the Rebels took a 2 lead. NIC battled back to take the lead with 12 minutes to play in the half and they would hold onto the lead until the Rebels pulled ahead 32-3- 1 at the 4:52 6-- mark. Dixie held the lead for the rest of the half. The score was 42-4- 1 at the break. The Rebels had trouble shooting the ball in the second half and it showed on the scoreboard. Dixie held the lead at 2 before NIC rattled off 11 unanswered points to lead at their biggest lead of the 53-5- 63-5- 3, game. NICs lead did not change very much over the next 10 minutes as they held a 9 point advantage for most of the second half. The turning point for the Rebels was about the 4 minute mark. Dixie strung together a few steals and some timely shooting to overcome the 10 point deficit. The Rebels were lead by Darrell White who scored a game high 27. Steve Andrus powered in 18, and Darren Jones also chippped in 14. On Saturday, the Rebels fell way behind late in the second half and they couldnt stage another amazing comeback as they were defeated by the Ricks College Vikings for the second time this year. 6-- Ricks, who defeated Dixie in seemed to have Rexburg 90-8the Rebels number as they hit 11 of their 15 attempts from 3 point land as compared to the Rebels 5 of 22. This seemed to be the difference in the game. Everytime the Rebels got on track, the Vikings would answer with a Ricks was lead by Justin Cammack who hit 7 of his 9 attempts on the 24 a to way point outing. The game started with Corby McDaniel scoring Dixies first 8 points as he lead the Rebels to an early lead. The Vikings didnt quit as they tied it at 16. The two teams traded the lead throughout the rest of the half. The split this weekend put the Rebels at 4 in Region and 15-- 7 on the year. The Rebels will be travelling this weekend to play UVCC and SLCC.
