Show Page 10 DIXIE SUN March 7,1986 Letters to the Editor How much fun would life be if people had to live in a garbage dump? Well, the students that live in the Shiloh and Shenandoah dormitories are finding the answer the hard way. The surroundings of the college dorms are a shambles, and the students are going to pay if something isnt done. The dorms are littered with the garbage of a few; however, many are going to suffer the consequences. During the week the grounds are covered with trash from fast food restaurants; for instance, McDonalds bags, food cartons, and coke cups are just a few examples of the limitless trash. The students have absolutely no regard for their college homes. They throw garbage out their doors as if it would fall into some great abyss. Not once do they think it falls to the ground. This is the same ground that they play games on and complain that there is too much trash. The sidewalks that lead to and from the cafeteria are littered with cafeteria food that people have smashed on the cement as a joke. However, the joke is going to be on themn in the not too distant future. The sad part is that too many innocent students are going to be caught up in the same not so funny joke. The fun continues on the weekends when students get caught up in the social life that college offers. The lawns are littered with the remnants of the weekend parties. For example, the students wake up in the morning and get rid of the evidence of alcohol. There are many dumpsters around the dorms; nevertheless students throw empty cans and boxes on the lawns, since the students have to feed themselves on weekends, the grounds are covered with the remains of their meals. Harmons bags litter the lawns and garbage sacks of trash are thrown out doors instead of being put into dumpsters where they belong. With several soda machines around, many students buy sodas, drink them, and throw them down wherever they are at the time. A few students are employed by the maintenance department to keep the grounds clean. These people don't take their or there wouldnt be a problem. On the jobs seriously, other hand, they are, just students and they have responsibilities in school. Some people think that there arent enough people employed to handle such a big job. The real problem is that the students dont care about their temporary homes. They dont have any pride in the school that they are paying to give them a good education. If the problem isnt solved, the housing authorities are going to take each students deposit and use the money to clean up the dorms and keep them clean. If the students persist in littering the grounds, the authorities will fine those students caught throwing garbage. The students at Dixie College persist in littering the grounds; consequently, they live in a dump and are going to pay for it with their own money and frustration. Pete Shingledecker It happens almost every single week. College kids get this burning desire to go out with other college kids and make absolute fools blem. Maybe the student body should invest in bouncers or something, or perhaps identification should start being checked more thoroughly. I do know that it is a problem which should be addressed. After all, its hard to impress that certain someone while bouncing these little badgers on your knee. by Jill Mowery Someone once said that all men are created equal. If this is true and every man is just as good as the next guy and can have all of the same rights, privileges and opportunities that everyone is entitled to, why is it that men are not entitled to the same rights as women? The problem that Im relating to is one that has been evident for many years, it is the fact that mens clothing is so utterly boring and completely blaw when compared to that of womens fashion and that most men are perfectly content to wear the same exact clothes as their fellow human beings. First of all lets compare the changes that have occured in mens clothing over the past 100 years. How many times have we observed the well dressed man of the day in a three piece suit with a white shirt and a dark, drab tie cinched around his neck, standing uncomfortably as he tries to keep his stomach from showing through his tightly buttoned vest. Is this the well dressed man, or stupidity? This idiotic way of dresing has changed very little from the early twentieth century until the present date. Next, examine the casually dressed man. He can be found wearing a pair of Levis and a pull-ovtype shirt and there is nothing wrong with that. This type of clothing looks and feels procession. Each was well fn ted in a dark three piece suit o a black tuxedo with white shi; and black bow tie. Each ma looked exactly alike and total ly uncomfortable. Just imagin er of its most likely femaleits the Tina Turner approach to life. If she wears passion purple eyeliner clear down to her navel, youll know instantly she is in high school. Even if you flee to The Z where the alleged young adults are not allowed, you are bound to bump into one. They think theyre being so sly, but its only so obvious. The boys are almost invariably on skateboards, usually you will note a poorly shaved head on their underdeveloped shoulders. They swear a lot, and they usually gather in bunches-- - kind of like bananas. If you should spot something anorexic walking by with hair sticking straight up in the air, ; what would happen if tw women came to the dance drej ed exactly alike. With out' an , doubt, one or both would find a reason to leave the dance ear ly, all of this just because o ; their outfits, yet all of the mer t in attendance are perfectly con tent to look just like the nev j guy.
